Meditations on Living in Nature The Consolations of the Forest is a captivating memoir of hermit life and self reflection that will whisk you away. In this diary-style account, Sylvain Tesson recounts how he withdrew from the bustle of modern society to immerse himself in the details that are otherwise lost in the chaos of modern living. In this haven from society, we see the spiritual quest of every-day existence come to life. This book is immensely suspenseful, carefully crafted, and deeply meditative. Tesson takes Thoreau's philosophy and pushes it to its limits in Siberia. With it's compassionate portrayal of his not-so-near neighbors, his book will give you a new-found appreciation for those who live nature's company full-time. If you enjoy introspective personal or travel memoirs, be sure to check this book out. Another great book for living in nature is Your Cabin in the Woods by Conrad Meinecke.

I found myself yearning for time away from humankind. I have recommended this one to friends and it is slowly making the rounds. It is not a book to be read fast. The descriptions are powerful and insightful. If you like a philosophical read you will like this one.
