The prologue of the book outlines a close encounter with two extraterrestrials. If this account is true then our perceptions of ET will need to be adjusted. The implications of this close encounter provide a backdrop for the rest of the book. Though fiction, The Conversion Conspiracy has its roots in Mormon mythology. Like books and movies that exploit the murky history and mysticism of Catholicism, this book reveals obscure folk stories from Mormon culture that become the centerpiece of the plot. As such, the impact and scope of what Mormons believe about extraterrestrials has been illustrated as Connelly Anders, a George Washington University sociology graduate student, unravels a conspiracy to prepare earth for alien colonization. The premise of the book is that Mormonism is the only religious institution that can survive the ramifications of alien first contact and colonization. In the anatomy of a conspiracy the book has effectively connected obvious and subtle events and facts and weaved them into the fabricated premise. There is even a thread in the story in which sinister government forces are propelling a Mormon Candidate to the White House. No stone seems to be left unturned as the book creates conspiratorial links to: Glen beck, Battlestar Galactica, Da Vinci Code, and Larry King.
