Overview

Captain Amy Cornwall's family is missing. She'll do whatever it takes to bring them home.

In her career as an Army intelligence officer, Amy Cornwall has seen haunting sights half a world away. None compare to the chilling scene at her Virginia home. It is empty.
A phone rings with a terrifying ultimatum: locate and liberate an unnamed captive in forty-eight hours, or her kidnapped husband and ten-year-old daughter are dead.
Now, and in open defiance of Army Command, Amy must employ every lethal tactic she has to save them. To succeed, she must discover not only who dispatched her on this mission, but why. Without her family, she's dead anyway.

Enjoyed the book. Found it interesting and the female characters were strong, intelligent, not easily intimidating & able to accomplish their goals.

Several years ago I quit buying Patterson after he converted from a great novelist to a money-hungry word factory. I knew better but fell for it anyway. The word hacks he hires are people who can't make it on their own. Maybe we should adopt the King James Bible technique of always printing Patterson's words in red. Combining two over-used plots into one didn't work. The book appears bereft of both editing and proof reading. What we did learn is the "co-arthur" here loves to use pretty and cute. Various military personnel's ranks are mis-stated so often I at first thought it was some kind of joke. Using the south travelogue approach lets the author work in myriad references to locations that were apparently pulled from google search. Character development was weak and silly although the plot picked up near the end. The moral I guess was not to mess with a woman's family. Doing so exposes two Mexican cartels, the middle east and the entire military command control structure to extinction. The artifact of always being late for important meeting is not quite as weak as the plot saver of some woman 3,000 miles away coming through with details that had been hiding in plain sight for months. For Gods sake lets quit buying this junk, it just encourages him.

This is the usual fast-paced thriller from James Patterson, with a co-author who, in my opinion, probably wrote most of the book. The general scenario is an army captain who has to find her kidnapped husband and daughter, turning over another man in their stead. The action is completely non-stop, with short chapters that led me to continue to read. My favorite character was Captain Cornwall who faced insurmountable odds and thus was a strong female character. Fans of Patterson who have tired of the same old thing will enjoy the different plot here that enjoys the military, kidnapping and cartels. I own my copy of this book and was not required to write a positive review. The opinions expressed are my own.

Fast paced action.

The plot was twisted and character development lacking. I was not invested in success of heroine as much as in many other stories by same author.

It would be hard to be a collaboration between two such good authors. The plot is well conceived and the motive for the kidnapping, when revealed, is a real surprise.

I hope Patterson pairs up with this guy again, he created a great story like he used to create
