As being a poor reader who is easily bored, I highly recommend this book. I finished this book within 10 days as I could not put it down. A very interesting and entertaining way to learn a bit about history. Ramos' use of adjectives in describing the characters and places were so vivid that I was feeling and seeing the story as it was told. I look forward to the sequel.

I immediately got into this book right from the beginning. Mr. Ramos piqued my interest in so many ways via the characters and setting he so eloquently created. I felt the pains and triumphs as the story progressed and was transported to Puerto Rico every day through his vividly descriptive writing style. In fact, I was so engrossed by the developing story that one day when I was reading on the bus on my way home from work, I actually left my bag on the bus while my mind was with Rosalia Hernandez in PR (fortunately, I did recover my bag later that evening). I read many books this summer by highly acclaimed authors, including W.E.B Griffin; however, Mr. Ramos's book stands out far above the rest and I have been recommending this book to everyone I know. You will not be disappointed; you will wish you were there assisting in the revolution and the fight for freedom. Bravo Anthony Ramos!

The author has written a historical novel rich in detail and characters which transports readers into the early days of the fight for human rights and freedom. The characters are brought to life and the reader is drawn into their world where there is hope, pain, heartache, courage and love. It is a beautifully written story which reminds us of the sacrifices of others to gain the freedom we take for granted. The author has combined a love story with a tale of how a few men and women are able to make a difference in the lives of others through pure determination, self-sacrifice and love for their fellow man. A must read for fans of historical fiction.

Are you an avid reader of historical fiction? Then this is a MUST READ. It is a historical novel set in 19th century Puerto Rico featuring Rosalia, the youngest daughter of a rich and powerful Spanish landowner and Miguel, a poor farm worker whose revolutionary fervor against the injustices of his people places Rosalia in a predicament. Each character grapples with decisions that will affect their loved ones and the love for each other. There are many characters to love and to hate with equal passion. This is not a love story, but a novel that takes you to a place and time where strong family values and traditions and the division of social classes led to a revolution that changed the governing system of Puerto Rico. I was impressed with the author's realistic interpretations of historical events of Spain and Puerto Rico and the way which he describes the world the characters live in. It is obvious he spent a lot of time researching that time period. The author is a master storyteller and his use of historical detail makes this book a must read for those who love historical fiction. It will ignite your desire to learn more about the times of that particular time period.

I was very surpised at how much I enjoyed this book as someone who only reads thrillers. I found myself moved by the struggles of the main characters and I could not put the book down. I love the way the author ended the book and I really hope he puts out a sequal.

Mr. Ramos has the unique ability to tell a tale of the Creole's plight for freedom while providing the reader with a lesson in the history of the Spanish rule of Puerto Rico in the Nineteenth Century. In my opinion, the measure of an excellent writer is how much you either love or detest the stories characters. The author had me rooting for the hero's and loathing the villains. Looking forward to future novels from Mr. Ramos!

A definite "Must Read". A very unique way to incorporate the history of Puerto Rico in a Dramatic yet very Romantic story line. I love the way Ramos paid so much attention to details of both characters and the land of PR. Definitely deserves a sequal or to be put on screen.

I found this book to be highly interesting and engaging. The characters kept me totally interested and I found it difficult to put down. I was hooked after the very first chapter. The author pays great attention to detail and characterization. This book is fast moving, filled with action, adventure and romance. I highly recommend this book. Would make a great TV mini-series.
