"Pure delightful reading..." Pero de Alava, a Spanish caballero curses God when he sees the prosperity of the wicked. He forsakes his bride and best friend to undertake a quest through The Eagles Forest, a doomed scapegoat carrying his sins into the forbidden world of monsters. His sacrifice, however, is not enough to atone for his transgressions. More blood must be shed. More lives must be lost. The powerful Fabbro family of Parthenope demands it. The mystical giant Sinibaldus, possessing a powerful Bellerophon Crystal, tears open a rupture between this world and the next. It's going to take more than swords and strength to combat these foes. It is going to take faith in the very thing Pero has lost his faith in. Zor always told Pero, "Bravest blood flows first." He wonders why he keeps surviving while everyone else is dying. Dark secrets are going to be revealed. The truth must be known. The light of the Bellerophon Crystal must shine. "Take a deep breath, lad, and press on. And don't be hesitant to use your sword if necessary. We didn't come here to spread peace."

Reviewed by Chris Fischer for Readers' Favorite In a novel of truly epic standards, The Crystal Crux: Betrayal, Volume One by author Allen M. Werner is a story that readers will not soon forget. Follow the story of Pero de Alava, a man dealing with paranoia and hallucinations to such a degree that he believes he is losing his mind. He loses his fiancee, his best friend can't seem to help him, and he can't seem to get past his jealousy of the wicked people who are prospering in Greek society. Will Pero be able to fight the demons that plague him, or will he slip deeper and deeper into madness? You'll need to read the book to find out. I very much enjoyed The Crystal Crux: Betrayal, Volume One. Author Allen M. Werner has written a complex, intricate and highly engaging tale that will enthrall his readers from the very beginning and will keep them obsessively turning the pages until the very end. The author's abilities in world creation are simply second to none and readers will feel as if they can slip through the pages to the landscapes that he paints with his words. The characters are vividly drawn and realistic, even in the fantastic environment, a mark of an excellent author. Any reader who enjoys a great work of fantasy, a little bit of romance, or just a creative work of fiction in general should absolutely give The Crystal Crux: Betrayal, Volume One a read. I am pleased to be able to recommend this book, and hope that I see more by the very promising author, Allen M. Werner, in the very near future!
