This is a beautiful study Bible with so many features. I love the timeline, word study, and character profiles. There are a few maps and some questions highlighted for deeper thoughts. The concordance is helpful to quickly find information on a specific Bible character. And I also like having some articles to help me along in my spiritual journey as I study the Bible.

Let me just get right to the point... This Bible is absolutely fantastic! It is a study Bible.  It is a great translation... the Christian Standard Bible.  The features in it were written by women for women.  There is nothing fluffy about this one. There are great study notes in the margins and footnotes.  There are so many wonderful features... it is the most extensive study Bible I have seen in my lifetime.  If I did not have access to other study helps this would totally suffice for in-depth study times each day.   I would recommend this Bible to any woman interested in getting serious about studying God's Word.  Men can certainly read it but this one is specifically designed to show the importance of women in God's plan for the world.  God loves us so much, ladies, and this study Bible will show you that as you read through each book.  It is beautifully and wisely designed.  No matter where you are in your walk with God this is a great resource for you.

This Bible is very pretty and I liked the colors they choose for the cover. I found the inside to be beautiful as well. Each book of the Bible has a cover page with florals but I do not think they are too much.  I have been reading through the Bible this year and I have been doing so in the CSB translation. I personally have really been enjoying it. If you haven't tried the CSB Translation I would encourage you to do so.  I spent some time looking through the different features. I really enjoyed the word studies as I am hoping to grow in this area. I found the doctrinal notes to be helpful as well. Since it is a women's study Bible, it does focus a lot on the women of the Bible.  Overall if you are looking for a women's Bible in the CSB translation that includes numerous study aides, The CSB Study Bible for Women would be a good one to look at.  I was blessed to receive a copy of this bible from B&H/Lifeway. My opinions are all my own. Thank you

I have a new favorite study Bible and this is it! The CSB Study Bible for Women is packed full of helpul commentary and information. I love the introductory page for each book of the Bible. It always contains a verse that is representative of that book and answers many questions including, but not limited to, who the author was, where the book took place, and the general details concerning what the book is about. Two of my favorite items from the intoductory page are the outline and the timeline. I also really enjoy the way the books of the Bible have clearly marked sections that line up with the outline, providing an easy way for me to keep track of how everything fits together. The pages of this Bible are just right. There is very light ghosting sometimes between pages, but it is not overwhelming. I am very sensitive to pages that are too thin and find it very hard to read with ghosting. This Bible does not bother my eyes at all. The font is also extremely easy to read and does not strain my eyes. I am really learning a lot as I study with this Bible. I have so far studied Colossians and 1 and 2 Thessalonians. There were some “Hard Question” sections included in each book, as well as “Word Study” sections, and other breakout sections that provided additional information. I have found the regular footnotes that are at the bottom of each page very helpful, as well. I really can’t say enough good things about this Bible. I received the cloth over board version for review and it seems very durable. I received a complimentary copy of this Bible. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

One of my favorite book reviews to do is of Bible translations and ones that include study guides! It used to be that we’d have to buy all sorts of other resources to study scripture deeper and to get historical information or commentary. With this new CSB women’s study bible, so many wonderful articles, historical information, and 101 character profiles on women of the bible are included. As a matter of fact, every woman in scripture is listed in the concordance. As a woman, I appreciate that the publishers had women theologians, authors, teachers and lay ministers as the primary contributors in the articles written and study materials provided. It encourages me to continue in my own study and pursuit of biblical knowledge. Many of the articles also highlight biblical womanhood, a trait not promoted enough, but very God honoring. Many necessary topics identified and addressed within the realm of “what does God say”, such as female identity, motherhood, spiritual mothering, women’s worth and identity in Christ, and her mission as daughter of the King. The CSB translation, (stands for Christian Standard Bible) has used the Optimal Equivalence translation philosophy. This is a marrying of the more traditional Formal equivalence and the Dynamic or Functional equivalence. This means that is has taken both the word for word literal translations and the “thought for thought” style of communicating the meaning and impact of a passage to translate. It has produced a very readable, but historically faithful style of bible translation. This compilation opens with an introduction on how to study the bible. It highlights how to inductively observe, ask questions, view passages as a whole and then how to apply and meditate on Scripture. It closes with an extensive explanation section for all of its teaching helps and an expansive concordance.

I was so excited to receive The Study Bible for Women: Christian Standard Bible (CSB) produced by Holman Publishers. I've never had a study Bible and I liked the idea of having one written specifically for women as the last few months I've been seeking to glean truths from studying women in the Bible. This hardcover Bible is well-made. It lays flat when open and has two built-in bookmarks. Without the dust cover, it is a bit plain, so I hope the cover holds up for awhile. I have heard really good things about the Christian Standard Bible version. The introduction discusses the translation method of “optimal equivalence.” Basically, they stick to a literal translation as much as possible, but if the literal translation would be confusing to a modern day reader, they strive to translate the original thought while staying close to the literal translation. The CSB Study Bible for Women is comprehensive. There is so much information. I will probably use this Bible most often when I can be alone and sit down for awhile. I estimate it takes at least three times as long as normal to read a chapter, if you read all commentary notes, character profiles, doctrine topics, personal application, maps, charts, and more. It is a lot of information and good if you want to dive deep. But not something I can read when my young children are awake. I did notice that sometimes the commentary notes, profiles, etc. are more concentrated near the beginning of books because they are introducing people, families, concepts. So far, I feel like I have learned a lot. I have not had time to read this entire Bible before writing my review. Overall, I feel the translation itself is solid and I expect to learn a lot. I also expect to disagree with the editor on a few issues (as is probably the case with any study Bible). One important note about deciding if The CSB Study Bible for Women is for you: The underlying worldview and editorial comments are very “evangelical” Christian. If that isn't for you, you might want to try a CSB Bible without all the study tips. There is a definite anti-liberal feminism bias and from what I have read, the editorial comments (titled as Biblical Womanhood) fall heavily on the complementarian side in the complementarian v. egalitarian debate about marriage roles. I feel the comments lose some of their relevance because it misses ministering to single women and women in less than ideal relationships. I have no desire to engage in the complementarian v. egalitarian debate, but I know there are strong opinions on both sides and am simply putting the information out there so you can can make an informed decision. Maybe I shouldn't bring this up, but I believe it is relevant to the decision to purchase the Bible (and I wasn't aware of this before I signed up to review this Bible): The managing editor, Dorothy Kelley Patterson, is the wife of Paige Patterson, President of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Mr. Patterson is accused of perpetuating domestic abuse through his teachings / counseling. His wife may hold similar views and her personal view may filter into the commentary. Bottom line: I think the translation is solid, not so sure about the commentary / interpretation. Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this Bible free from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR,

To sum it up simply….I LOVE this Bible!! Bibles can be difficult to review as they consist of many elements so I am going to break it down a bit… Appearance: The cover of the Bible is probably the only thing I don’t love about this Bible. It’s a bit too plain for my taste. It has a mint green (which I love) and cream cover with the words “The Study Bible for Women” printed near the spine. I was a little disappointed when I received it as the picture shows the floral design but that is a removable paper dustjacket and when removed, the Bible is plain. Some people would really like this but I enjoy a bit more color and design. One thing I love about Holman Bibles is that they tend to include 2 ribbon bookmarks. This Bible has a green and tan bookmark. Having 2 bookmarks is extremely helpful. The artwork in this Bible is gorgeous. I love the color scheme of mint green, peach, pink, and yellow that is very trendy right now. Each title page for the books of the Bible are decorated with a beautiful floral design and a very nice font. This Bible is perfect for me as I am a very visual person and it is very colorful. The maps are full color and all of the special features are also very colorful and adorned with pretty artwork. Content: With all the beauty of the Bible, the content is always the most important part. This Bible is packed with great, relevant content that is geared towards women and issues of today. Each page has footnotes with commentary for many verses in the Bible. I use the commentary of study Bibles the most as I love to read extra insight on the verses. There is a special feature called “word study” that discusses a word (for example: “forgive”) and then explains the word further and in the context of the time and verse. Another special feature is called Doctrine, in which different topics are discussed (divorce, the Holy Spirit in Old Testament, Sin and Forgiveness). There is an index in the back with each topic of Doctrine and where to find it in the Bible. There is a section throughout the Bible called Biblical Womanhood that describes an issue that affects women (sanctity of life, sexual purity, inner beauty). There is a very helpful index in the back of the Bible that lists all of the places these sections are found based on the topics. One of my favorite special features in this Bible are the Hard Questions. These are scattered throughout and pose a question that is controversial or difficult and gives a Biblical answer. There is also a great index with the hard question topics in the back of the Bible. Examples of topics for hard questions are abortion, racism, war, homosexuality, and infertility. One thing that sets this Bible apart from typical study Bibles are the Character profiles…these highlight the women of the Bible and show us what we can learn from them. Again, there is a great index in the back with all of the Character profiles listed. At the end of each book, there is a feature called, “Written on my Heart”, in which the story can be applied to the reader’s life. This Bible also contains many charts (with an index in the back) and maps as well as a concordance that includes all the women in the Bible. I own many Bibles but this is by far one of my favorites. I will treasure it throughout my life. I received this Bible from the publisher to review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

In this review I am addressing only the features of this Bible, not the translation itself. The CSB Study Bible for Women is a true study Bible, not a “devotional Bible”. It’s packed with study helps, including these that I found to be detailed: Character profiles; charts; explanation of different doctrines; maps and reconstructions; notes on individual verses all throughout the Biblical text. There’s a section called “Hard Questions” that I think is particularly helpful for believers in any stage of their Christian growth. Although I obviously have not read every individual note or chart, the study helps seem to be written from a conservative, evangelical point of view. The hardcover edition is attractive and sturdy. The size/weight works well for carrying it to church. When opened it lays completely flat, which makes it easy to read. The font is a clear, nice size. (I can read it easily with my reading glasses, but I do think they will need a large print edition.) Please note: It is NOT a Bible you would want to use for Bible journaling. The amount of extra information included takes up the margin space. I use colored pencils to underline verses in my Bibles, and those seem to work fine on these pages. I am looking forward to using this Bible in my daily study. I received a copy of this Bible from the publisher for review. I was not required to give a positive review. This is my honest opinion about this Bible.

The CSB Study Bible for Women is a treasure trove of information! The Bible is bound in a beautiful light turquoise cover and a sand color along the spine binding. It is a hardbound book, together with turquoise and sand colored bookmarks, which makes it easier to mark the Old and New Testament individually. I appreciated and savored this Bible from the first page. The beginning pages have family trees for both sides of your family, The Ketubah-a Jewish marriage contract, a page for family milestones and a place to list your spiritual mothers. As you continue in the Bible, there is a section on how to study this version. I was impressed by the layout and thoroughness. Each chapter includes a section with a timeline, outline of the chapter, word study, hard question, doctrine and Biblical Womanhood. There are also Character Profiles and footnotes titled Written on my Heart-a short synopses of how the chapter impacts you personally. I really can’t say enough about this study Bible. The colors and illustrations are visually appealing, the word study is fascinating, and all the tidbits enhance your study experience exponentially! If you are looking for a Bible that explains the original text, leads you on a journey of discovery and enhances your study time, you can’t go wrong with The CSB Study Bible for Women. I received this Bible from Holman Bible Publishers through FrontGate Media. However, I was under no obligation to write a review.
