Overview

The Cure: What If God Isn't Who You Think He Is And Neither Are You by John Lynch, Bruce McNicol, Bill Thrall

The Cure gives the diagnosis of this century’s religious obsession with sin-management. It has poisoned the Church, obscuring the Original Good News and sending millions away-wounded, angry and cynical, from nearly any organized expression of faith. The Cure offers an authentic experience in Christ that frees some from a self-rewarded righteousness, and others from a beaten down striving for a righteousness they can never seem to attain. The Cure infuses a relational theology of grace and identity, which alone can heal, free and create sustainable, genuine, loving, life-giving communities.

Quite simply - this book has the ability to tear down the walls we all create to hide our insecurities and failures. 'The Cure' offers a practical guide for transforming our lives from a performance based masquerade to honesty and vulnerability, and unleashes the power of the gospel. The title is appropriate in that this book truly offers 'the cure' as revealed in the Bible.

The foundational truth of the Christian faith is that Jesus is the Christ. His perfect life, sacrifice, death, and resurrection is sufficient and complete for our salvation - and all of Scripture points to this truth. But how quickly we begin to live the lie. That what we do affects God's love for us. That our identity, and His, changes based on our performance. As we grow in this lie, it changes how we read and interpret Scripture. The Cure realigns our thoughts and understanding of who God is and who we are in Christ. Excellent and should be required reading for all believers.

I first heard John Lynch speak at a men's retreat in 2009. His message of grace was just what I needed to hear. The Cure carries the same theme--revealing a God who loves us beyond our expectations and imaginations. The Cure challenges us to get off the path of trying to please God and get on the path of trusting God--and in trusting God, find that it is the only way to please Him. The Cure shows us that when we believe Jesus is our Savior, he dwells within us and works from within to mature us into His holiness. We don't have to strive to be better, we have to trust Him. We don't have to work for His approval, but we will find ourselves doing good things out of love and gratitude. The message is freeing. The story is amazing.

This is a great book. The authors of this book have really thought through how to communicate what the true Living God wants us to know. That He loves us for who are and who He made us to be, not for what we do or how we feel in this world. Thank you for writing this book. I hope many others will find the "Truth" and "Life" in your book.

Guess I'm now a "carrier". This book clearly communicates an idea I've been rolling around in my head for quite a while now: that when we live and act out of who we are in God's eyes, rather than in how we must change and improve our behavior, our lives will change in spite of our "best efforts ".
