About the Author

James Bone is the former New York bureau chief of The Times of London newspaper. For almost a quarter of the century, he covered every major event in New York: Whether it was a celebrity scandal or a mafia trial, a Wall Street fraud or a record art sale, a high society wedding or a terrorist attack, he was there. He comes from a family of generations of artists on both sides, some of whom were active at the same time as the sculptors and painters in this book. He has reported from dozens of countries and some non-countries, from Afghanistan to Antarctica. His most recent posting was as The Times correspondent in Rome, Italy.

I applaud Mr Bone for all his research and passion about telling the tragic story of Audrey Munson. The book was everything I hoped it would be. I learned a lot about New York, the Bohemia art world and unscrupulous Hollywood. I wish I could have visited Ms. Munson in her final years to just give her human comfort. What a sad long ending to her life. I identify with her love of animals. I am glad for the author's persistence in getting background information to share her story. The list of sources and indexing is amazing. A book worth re-reading.

3.5 Stars Audrey Munson was America’s first Supermodel. Audrey Munson posed for numerous famous sculptures. Her life seemed glorious, and yet, she spent the last half of her life in an insane asylum. Although little has been revealed about Munson’s life as a whole, her influence in today’s art world is still supreme. James Bone provides research and photographs to tell Audrey’s story and the cultural phenomena that she inspired. If readers unfold the cover, they will be to see copies of newspaper articles and pictures of Munson. The author takes readers on a journey through the decades to give a more thorough account of Audrey’s life, including the horrific events that occurred when her doctor became obsessed with her.
