History records that Hitler used key loyal Nazi leaders to operate in various parts of the world to spread his evil plan of world domination. Hawaii, a peaceful paradise, was one of those places. They thought they could launch an operation which could change the course of the war in their favor. A plan which was moving along smoothly until something unexpected happened. The government hired Air Force captain Matt Ryan and RAF pilot Reggie Manning- two former POWs, now in partnership running a Hawaii air charter service- to investigate the disappearance of a noted scientist from the island of Maui. Soon, the duo found themselves in the midst of one of their most dangerous missions. The scientist’s daughter, also searching for her father then mysteriously disappears from her hotel room. Soon after a strange package addressed to her arrives at the hotel desk. By sheer luck this parcel falls into the hands of Ryan. Packaged inside it- a golden Buddha that harbored an even more curious item deep inside its bulging belly- the image of a coral crimson dragon. What was it about the dragon that was so important? And why was it sent to this woman? Or for that matter, where and why did she disappear as well? This novel takes you through the historical events of that era, as Ryan and Manning race across the romantic Hawaii Islands in search of answers. The writer goes into great detail describing military and scientific advancements of the time- all germane to the plot. Luckily the hero Ryan and his friend Manning (who you will come to adore!) having already been through the harsh experiences of POWs, were seasoned for what was to come. However, one problem that neither had foreseen did arise; the scientist’s daughter, once found, falls in love with Ryan and wants to be with him. This puts them all in harm’s way. The novel has interesting characters; some of which you will come to love; hate; or distrust. I found the madam- although her part minimal in the book, intriguing, as she demonstrated conscience and knew how to return a favor. I love this novel, as it is exciting; intriguing, full of suspense and drama. The author brings you through many dangers up until the last chapter. Who is friend and who is foe? You’ll need to read to the book’s conclusion. I already have a list of friends and family I plan to recommend the book to…And, as an aside, a signature of the author can be found in the last chapter where he brings out his romantic side. I am looking forward to more of Tony Piazza's novels. A great author with many more great stories to tell.
