Overview

The Dancing Tiger by Doyle Malachy, Steve Johnson

There's a quiet, gentle tigerIn the woods below the hill, And he dances on his tiptoes, When the world is dreaming, still. Malachy Doyle's poetic text invites us to join a mysterious tiger, who only appears when the moon is full, on his joyous dances through the changing seasons. Luminous paintings by Steve Johnson and Lou Fancher capture the movement and energy of the language, and lead us to a magical woodland, suffused with moonlight, where a child and a tiger can play to their hearts' content.

Had this book since Christmas '09 and of the 2 or 3 books my son gets to request each night, this one remains the consistent one. Such beautiful prose that I should not have been (but was- he was still only 2 at the time) surprised to hear him reciting it one day to himself, word for word! His grandparents were wowed. Lovely story never bores, perfect length doesn't loose his attention. Like a lullaby. Creates a soft end to busy days, helps calm him off to sleep with promises of pleasant dreams. Wish I could find another like it.
