About the Author

D.L. Blade grew up in southern California, but relocated to Colorado with her family in 2014.

She always loved writing, concentrating on poetry rather than prose when she was younger. That changed however, when she had a dream one night and decided to create a story about it.

In her spare time, D.L. enjoys a wide variety of hobbies, including reading, attending rock concerts and volunteering at local animal shelters where she can indulge in her passion for all forms of life.

In the future, D.L. hopes that she can continue to write exciting novels that will captivate her readers and bring them into the worlds that she creates using her imagination.

The Dark Awakening - This book had me in another world without realizing I’d left my own. I easily found myself lost in this adventure with Mercy, the main character. It’s written in a way that feels very genuine and gives you the opportunity to get to know the cast before the fireworks go off, and man do they go off! Although this book has supernatural elements, it’s not gimmicky. You actually don’t realize you’re reading fiction until you step away back into the real world. I loved learning about this world the author created and often found myself really believing this was true. The characters have individual, quirky and fun personalities. You will enjoy this book, I promise!

This is my first time reading D.L. Blade and I will be honest it has been a while since I read YA - New Adult as well probably longer since I read Paranormal Urban Fantasy. With that said I really enjoyed this title it reminded me why I fell in Love with the Paranormal Urban Fantasy Genre all those years ago. The first couple of chapters where a little slow but very well written still. She laid the ground work for her amazing characters and setting. It was very descriptive and informative just not as much action so I think that is why I struggled at first but man when the story kicked in it was one heck of a ride. Once the story itself took off I found my self not wanting to put it down. I can't wait to read the second installment this was a great beginning to what is going to become a Great Urban Fantasy Series.

I absolutely loved this first book of this new series. I accidentally found this new-to-me author and her book and I am so very glad that I did. I cannot wait for the next book. Highly addictive. Mercy has never quite fit into her life but when her own mother attempts to kill her, she struggles to deal with the after effects and the fact that her life begins changing at a rapid rate. Hidden secrets and past lives start to catch up with her the closer she gets to her 18th birthday. Finding out she is a witch was the last thing she expected and she is trying hard to catch up on training to enable her to use her new found powers. She no longer knows who to trust. New “friends” aren’t what they seem and old friends make drastic changes. She doesn’t even know who she is anymore. She has her aunt and uncle helping her adjust to her new world but even they don’t know the whole truth. Finding out exactly what she is takes her on a dangerous journey that puts everyone she loves in peril. Decisions she makes can mean life or death of not only herself, but of everyone around her. She has now become the hunted. She needs to find a way to concentrate on doing what is right without hurting anyone but if it will help her in the end remains to be seen. This is a fast moving, smooth flowing, paranormal read with twists and turns that keep you guessing as to what’s next for Mercy and her makeshift coven. I was hooked from the very first page and lost sleep trying to finish it. lol I completed the book in less than 24 hours, it’s THAT good. I’m anxiously awaiting the next book and will grab it as soon as it’s out.

D.L. Blade, Where have you been or should I say where have I been? The Dark Awakening has thrills, twist, turns, and scandals that you not only hit you by surprise but have you wanting more. The story doesn't leave hardly any supernatural character out. It includes witches, vampires, demons, angels, and werewolves. Mercy is a teenage girl who has no idea who she used to be or who she is about to become. She has been through a lot (her mother trying to murder her on graduation night is just the beginning.) Caleb comes into Mercy's life and she finds it hard to trust him. Had she loved him once before or is he hiding something from her? Before Caleb came into her life, Mercy dreamed of a man. A man she seemed to once love, but is he a man at all? Are the secrets Caleb hides from Mercy helping her or in the end will it only push her away? Time can only tell. The Dark Awakening was refreshing. It is a stunning story that will keep entranced in the book the entire time. I couldn't stop turning the pages. I had to know what was going to happen next.D.L Blade's book was exceptional. The creativity of the story was riveting. The characters were easy to connect with and fall in love with over and over. I can't wait for the next chapter of Mercy's life !!

I couldn’t put this book down, or wait to get to the next page and find out what would happen next. I really liked the twist at the end. I wasn’t expecting that. Great read!

The Dark Awakening came out earlier this month (October 2018) and is D. L. Blade's premiere in the writing world! I personally feel like October was a great month for this month to come out during because it's got elements you think of around Halloween. I'm talking a coven of witches who team up with a couple of werewolves to fight off those vampire jerks.  It all starts with Mercy, who recently graduated high school and is trying to figure out who the heck she is and deal with everything after her mother attempted to murder her. There's a lot she doesn't know about herself - like that she's a witch! Some people she knows from a past life start popping up and she is forced to make some tough decisions. As this is Blade's premier book, I really was unsure of what to expect. Now that I've finished, I'm definitely following her on Goodreads for her next book!  The Dark Awakening started off quickly and the characters are completely relatable. The only thing that confused me were the text messages they sent each other - I don't know anyone anymore (even my parents!) who send such grammatically correct texts! I could see the world these characters were in and felt the feelings of confusion, stress, and frustration that they were feeling. I loved seeing Mercy standing up for herself and making decisions regardless of who was pressuring her.  This book reminded me of Charlaine Harris's books (she's one of my favorites!). If you love Harris, you should definitely give this book a try. Who knows, it could end up on TV someday - I could totally see this book converted into a CW show! Read this review and more on my blog!

What a great start to a new series! I just finished reading The Dark Awakening, and I gotta say, “I didn’t see THAT coming!” I absolutely love it when a book surprises me or when I can’t easily predict where the story’s going. It was refreshing to read a YA fantasy novel that deviated from the typical formula, and included a great explanation for the origins of our favorite cast of fantasy characters: witches, vampires, shapeshifters. The author creates a sense of time and place very quickly, and readers will identify with the main character, Mercy, as she discovers just prior to her 18th birthday that she is part of a world she never knew existed--and not just part of that world, but a critical player. Once this world is revealed, hang on to your hat! You won’t want to put the book down. Mercy is a likeable teenager with a great sense of humor and the right amount of dramatic angst that makes her very believable. The story has an explosive climax and an excellent twist that will have readers begging for the next book. Well done, Ms. Blade!

I was pleasantly surprised by this book! I was constantly on edge waiting to see what would happen next and it never disappointed. The story line is fluid and the character development happens naturally. I found myself 6 chapters deep the first time I cracked it open! I can't wait to see more from this author!

4 & 1/2 stars, which I rarely give. I really enjoyed this book! There are a lot of characters but the author does a great job of not making them all blend together, and definitely you will have a favorite or two. I couldn’t put the book down once I got into the story, it makes you feel as if you are there. To which I’m hoping there is a second book coming, I want to see where Mercy ends up and how she deals with her new found self. This is a book I will read again, and recommend to my other YA readers. UPDATE: It’s been a couple of months since I read this book and I already want to read it again. I will reread books but only ones that are really good!

I would never in a million years have guessed that this is Blade’s debut novel because it’s done right and it’s done well. The reader gets to know the main character and her world pretty well before she discovers she’s a witch and witches, vampires, etc. are real. Even before she discovers life isn’t what she thought it was, her life’s fairly complicated so there’s never a dull moment. Character development is fantastic with advanced characters throughout, who are complex and true to themselves. Mercy’s world, as a character, is well done as well. Plenty of things readers can easily relate to, despite the paranormal aspect. Continuity is on point; you won’t find yourself questioning anything, yet might still find yourself surprised by a few details before you’re through. Editing/proofing are well done, no issues to distract from the reading experience. Overall - This is a really great book to get lost in. I found myself missing it horribly when I’d step away, as it really sucked me in. There are characters you’ll love, find yourself rooting for, and maybe one or two you’ll love to hate. I was really invested, and found myself trying to figure out whether I trusted some of them. I also didn’t predict the outcome of this book, and I predict EVERYthing I watch and read. For one thing, I was too engrossed in the moment, to make predictions, but there also was a twist I didn’t see coming. It was executed perfectly in a way that made me absolutely need more, without being a cliffhanger. I rarely rate anything 5 stars these days, but that’s because anyone is rarely able to hold my attention that well AND surprise me so… I’m going to go ahead and call this one: 5 stars.
