'This reminds me of how broken I am, every single day when I wake up and see it in the mirror. It’s a scar that will never go away.’

East Greenwich may be a small town, but it is riddled with secrets. Mercy knows this more than most – she still suffers from the scars. The trauma from the ultimate betrayal has caused her to keep her distance from everyone she holds dear. A stranger who lingers in her subconscious seems to be the exception to the rule. His comfort is a refreshing distraction from her tormented fears.

‘I won’t lose you again.’

Unbeknownst to her; the past is weaving its dark web, waiting to strike. Upon a startling car accident, Mercy is shocked to find that her enigmatic mystery man, Caleb, is real – and she belongs to him. He reveals that Mercy’s family is strongly linked to an ancient coven; the roots slowly dragging her back to Salem again.

There may be a spark between Mercy and Caleb, but she is torn between wanting to kiss him – and running from him. Evil forces are awakening, growing bloodthirsty as the days and nights pass. Mercy must Awaken the dormant powers inside her, tackle the lies, betrayal, and blood-drenched past lives rotating around her in never-ending cycles. Can she bear the burden? Will she find it in herself to trust Caleb despite the shadowy past?

To slay a monster; you might need to become a monster.

Mercy is nearing her 18th birthday and feels like someone is watching her. She suffered a trauma at the hands of her mother and they have been estranged for months. This has caused Mercy to distance herself from her boyfriend and friends to avoid unexpected personal contact. The only person she allows to be close is the mystery man in her dreams. Imagine Mercy’s surprise when he approaches her in the park. This was a fun twist on witches, vampires and werewolves. Mercy is young so I enjoyed watching her grow up and deal with all that life throws at her. The author did a great job of making the story flow from Mercy’s memories to the present. I am looking forward to the rest of the series.

I am always excited when I start a brand new series, and of course a brand new ya paranormal series. I was hooked immediately when I started reading this book. I didn't want to take a break (Darn sleep) I would look forward to every night so I could dive back into Mercy's crazy world, and lose myself in it. I love everything about Mercy, and Caleb is my new book boyfriend. Ha! The story isn't like any other typical YA Paranormal books. It has a different twist that you wouldn't think could work, but it does SO WELL! The story is told beautifully, and the flow of the book is very nice and you do not get lost or confused about what is happening, or where or anything like that. I CANNOT wait for book 2!

This is my first time reading D.L. Blade and I will be honest it has been a while since I read YA - New Adult as well probably longer since I read Paranormal Urban Fantasy. With that said I really enjoyed this title it reminded me why I fell in Love with the Paranormal Urban Fantasy Genre all those years ago. The first couple of chapters where a little slow but very well written still. She laid the ground work for her amazing characters and setting. It was very descriptive and informative just not as much action so I think that is why I struggled at first but man when the story kicked in it was one heck of a ride. Once the story itself took off I found my self not wanting to put it down. I can't wait to read the second installment this was a great beginning to what is going to become a Great Urban Fantasy Series.

I absolutely loved this first book of this new series. I accidentally found this new-to-me author and her book and I am so very glad that I did. I cannot wait for the next book. Highly addictive. Mercy has never quite fit into her life but when her own mother attempts to kill her, she struggles to deal with the after effects and the fact that her life begins changing at a rapid rate. Hidden secrets and past lives start to catch up with her the closer she gets to her 18th birthday. Finding out she is a witch was the last thing she expected and she is trying hard to catch up on training to enable her to use her new found powers. She no longer knows who to trust. New “friends” aren’t what they seem and old friends make drastic changes. She doesn’t even know who she is anymore. She has her aunt and uncle helping her adjust to her new world but even they don’t know the whole truth. Finding out exactly what she is takes her on a dangerous journey that puts everyone she loves in peril. Decisions she makes can mean life or death of not only herself, but of everyone around her. She has now become the hunted. She needs to find a way to concentrate on doing what is right without hurting anyone but if it will help her in the end remains to be seen. This is a fast moving, smooth flowing, paranormal read with twists and turns that keep you guessing as to what’s next for Mercy and her makeshift coven. I was hooked from the very first page and lost sleep trying to finish it. lol I completed the book in less than 24 hours, it’s THAT good. I’m anxiously awaiting the next book and will grab it as soon as it’s out.
