Review of the 3 short stories in this awesome paperback :-) Story #1 Shadow Blues – 5 Stars I’m so happy that I Stepped Through The Portal and read “Shadow Blues” ~ It’s a great short story by Tricia Zoeller, an opener into an amazing world. Zoeller’s world building is phenomenal. I like to read for an escape, and that is exactly what she gives you, when you get lost in the World of Montenai. Very cool characters, and twist on mythical creatures. Meet Anka and Ben and follow them on their tale of young love as rules are broken and lives are changed forever.  Story #2 Shadow Fire – 5 Stars I was excited to jump back into The Darkling Chronicles and get to spend some time in the World of Montenai, reading about Anka’s sister, Bianca’s story. The glimpses the author gave of Bianca in book 1, Shadow Blues, were very intriguing, Bianca, the sister who always followed the rules, aghast at her little sister breaking them, yet heart broken at the punishment she’d received from the Dragon Lords, now battles with a little rule breaking herself. See what Bianca does with the balance of Shadowland in her hands.  Story #3 Shadow Thief – 5 Stars Wow! This story has to be my favorite yet, and that’s a hard thing decide, because I love them all. As I love the bond of sisters in real life with my own, it was a pleasure to get to know another set of sisters, Natcha and Nalene. Natcha is the eldest of the sisters, and very protective of Nalene. Natcha is a creature of fire with the ability to cloak herself, which bewilders others. She risks everything to help one even though it will put many in danger and her in hiding. Find out what happens to Natcha and Nalene! Overall thoughts on the series so far: These stories have the perfect pace, and with world building that feels like a living breathing character in and of itself it makes for very enjoyable reading. I can’t wait for the last two installments, Shadow Ice, book 4 and Shadow King, book 5.  I’m super mega excited that Mrs. Zoeller has put these stories into combined editions for paperback format. My keeper shelf has been waiting for The Darkling Chronicles, Shadows 1 (which includes the first three short stories) Eeeeeeeeps!! I encourage any fan-lover of YA/NA Fantasy to read these stories and get lost in Tricia Zoeller’s Darkling Chronicles and the World of Montenai.
