Dr. Mariza Snyder and Dr. Lauren Clum run The Specific Chiropractic Center in Oakland, California, where they focus on helping people to realize their own healing capacity. They both graduated from Life Chiropractic College West in Hayward, CA and began practicing together in 2009. Anna Zulaica is the owner of Presto! Catering in Berkeley, CA.

I'm sorry, I have to respond about this book. I waited until it came out to buy a book specifically for DASH Diet recipes. I have been pretty disappointed with it. I'm a middle class Mom of 4 and most of these recipes are complicated and involve ingredients not normally on hand. Some recipes take a significant amount of time to prepare and although I love to cook and enjoy using new and different things these recipes are not convenient and many of them my children won't entertain the thought of eating. I have picked out some recipes that I think I will like and will continue to try others, however, if one is going to entertain a weeks menu using this book on a middle class budget you will burn up your entire months grocery allowance. I'm excited about this diet and so far have lost 13 pounds on it but have 50 to go. It is a battle and an ongoing process and can get pretty discouraging. With that said, I will continue to look for other books that have recipes for DASH diet and hope for the best. I do appreciate all the work that went into creating this book and the powerful minds behind it! Thanks so much!
Fantastic guide! Like many Baby Boomers, I have developed a new-found interest in my health and was searching for recipes that would aid my "project." I am neither an enthusiastic nor a creative cook, and the cookbooks I found were much too complicated and demanded more time than I was willing to give. A former student recommend this book, and am I glad she did. The recipes are easy and require no special skills, for which I am especially grateful. No exotic ingredients are require, and, best of all, these dishes can be made in record time. The dishes take me out of my "comfort zone"---I've discovered kale! Most importantly, these dishes are amazingly delicious even for those, like my husband, who believe only hot dogs should be considered "food." I heartily recommend this cookbook to everyone, whether or not you have health concerns. Maybe, like I did, you'll discover that eating healthy can also be easy, fun, and tasty!
I'm not what you'd call a health food junkie and I was quite skeptical of the green smoothies at first since I'm not a huge fan of spinach or kale either. Tried the melon smoothie with spinach and actually enjoyed it! So far I've made the homemade granola, and then used it in the breakfast berry parfait. So delicious even my fast-food-loving husband loved it! Can't wait to try more recipes - there are already 20+ I have earmarked and I just got the book! The recipes are easy to follow and I really like that the nutrition facts are printed for each one. Also valuable was that the others took time to introduce the theory behind why this stuff is good for you.
This book was not what I expected. Very disappointed in the HIGH saturated fat and some of the dishes are loaded with sodium. This defeats the purpose of the DASH diet.
This book is an easy read- it gives you the information you need and guidelines related to the DASH diet. The recipes are great...my favorite is the Farro salad. Actually, I have hired Presto catering, whose chef authored this book, on several occasions now, for work and personal family functions. The food is always delicious and the presentation is superb. I would highly recommend this book, wish it had some pictures, i "eat" with my eyes....but still deserves 5 stars.
After hiring Chef Anna Zulaica's San Francisco Bay Area catering company, Presto! Catering to cater a dinner for colleagues a few years ago I knew her recipes were wonderful -- healthy, tasty, visually attractive, and crowd pleasers. So I was excited to learn she and her colleagues Dr. Snyder and Dr. Clum were publishing a cookbook based on their medical knowledge and Anna's culinary skills. As soon as the book arrived I rushed to the grocery store to buy ingredients to make the Kale and Butternut Squash Saute (pg 202). I knew if anyone could make the super vegetable Kale pleasing, it would be Chef Zulaica and I was right. The dish is wonderful and true to the cookbook it only took 30 minutes start to finish. I bought the butternut squash that was already cubed at the grocery and putting the dish together was a breeze. I did cook the squash the full 15 minutes (10 - 15 recommended) because I like it a little softer, but can cook it to your taste if you prefer it firmer. And I loved that the red chili pepper flakes are added to taste so that I could add just enough to give it a wonderful pizzazz without overwhelming the dish with spiciness. And the slight tang from the pecorino romano cheese was the perfect addition. Thank you to her team and to Chef "Zoo-like-a" -- I like-a your book very much!
