With Colbie Caillat and Sara Bareilles topping the charts, the market is ripe in 2008 for a solo artist like Brendan James. The New Hampshire native wields a sensitive voice and competent piano chops, while his songs brim with the same sort of adult contemporary hooks that orchestrate episodes of Grey's Anatomy. James maintains a relaxed pace and sticks to leisurely tales of childhood, small-town life, and botched relationships, with a handful of nature metaphors ("Early April Morning" signifies rebirth; "The Sun Will Rise" represents faith) peppering the mix. There's certainly an audience for such easygoing material, and some listeners might find James' gauzy debut to be perfect background music.

I have been waiting for this CD to come out for about 8 months now, and boy did it not disappoint. Brendan is not only a great, great person (I met with him at SXSW this year), but he has the voice and poetic lyrics to match his charm. Most of his songs are written as true stories that everyone can relate with, whether its that girl that you love but can never understand why she always wears green, or a non-political ode to all of the heros of the war in Middle East. There is something very calming about Brendan's voice that no matter what troubles you, chances are it will work out in one way or another. This CD is a true masterpiece for a debut album, it is a must buy for anyone that has ever liked any song in any genre.
I bought this CD on a whim (as I do most music) and it was not disappointing. What I enjoy the most is James' flair for a neatly-turned phrase and the beautiful harmonies he employs. The album is fairly peaceful, which is always nice. The only thing I can't understand is why he sounds like he has an English accent if he grew up on the East Coast. Very strange...
This album is fantastic. Each song brings new meaning to life - Most are based on experiences Brendan's been through, and his music has touched my heart since the very beginning. Please give him a chance and buy his album - and if you can, definitely try to see one of his shows!!! I have been waiting years and years for this CD and it is well worth the wait!
I am not at all surprised to finally see a CD. I've known Brendan since high school and he has always been so wonderful to listen to. His music reminds you of memories and times in your own life. You'll see!!! You will not be disappointed in buying and listening to this cd!!
