The Desolate Garden by Danny Kemp

Only months before the murder of Lord Elliot Paterson, and his youngest son Edward, an address in Leningrad is discovered hidden in the ledgers of the family's Bank in Westminster, dating back to the 1930's. There is a spy in the family, but on whose side? His eldest son Harry is recruited into the British Secret Service to uncover the traitor. The Desolate Garden is a twisting tale of deceit and intrigue with Harry, and an attractive girl from the Home Office, desperately trying to unravel the mystery, before anyone else meets the same fate.

“Not being a big fan of twisted thrillers, it was with some misgivings that I fired up my kindle app to begin reading the Desolate Garden. After reading the opening line I was hooked. "The first time I saw her was three days after I was told that my father had died.“ The attraction between Judith Meadows from the Home Office and Lord Harry plays with the give and take of a rubber band throughout the book, pushing and pulling at each other’s emotions, meanwhile there is a murderer to be found and a spy to be flushed out. The story is twisted with fascinating snippets of international intrigue and crises but what I enjoyed most was Kemp’s wonderful use of words. I didn’t just read the story I felt it.

I have not yet finished this great first novel by Danny Kemp, a new author who I hope we will see more of in the future. So far, I am enthralled by this wonderful book. The storytelling is wonderful and takes into another world, and well captured this readers imagination. I can recommend this book to any avid reader. And, I hope we see more from this author. I cannot give five stars, yet, because I don't know what is yet to come. If you haven't bought it yet, what's holding you back?
