With eleven missing women to find and six high-profile burglary cases to solve, the last thing Detective Nathan McNamara needs in his life is one more complication. And that’s exactly what his recent one-night stand is becoming—complicated. With his heinous lieutenant breathing down his neck for answers and his accidental girlfriend dropping hints for a commitment, Nathan is realizing that his career and his bachelor status are both on the line.

When the burglary cases suddenly escalate to homicide, Nathan must put everything else aside to stop the killer. But this is easier said than done when the blonde from the bar repeatedly shows up at his doorstep and enlists his own mother against him. Now he’s more convinced than ever that his job hangs in the balance and that the Surgeon General’s warning on the whiskey bottle should include something about women.

Stars: 4 (for overall story) Chilies: 2 (for 'heat' factor) Chapters: 13 (Novella) Ends: Cliff hanger alert…perfect set up for next novel! Series:  The Detective  The Soul Summoner  The Siren  The Death Angel Characters:  Nathan McNamara – THE DETECTIVE in Wake County  Shannon Green – Reporter for WKCN news (and new girlfriend)  Ramon Edgar – IT technician for the department  Dennis Morgan – Trustee (Hacking wizard)  Lieutenant William Carr – ‘Resident Asshole’ and Detective McNamara’s Boss  Sheriff Lyle Tipper – Person who hired the McNamara  Tyrell Reese – Friend of McNamara and Cop with the Investigative Unit  Justin Sider – BAD GUY  Carter – McNamara’s young nephew  Lara – One of McNamara’s sisters  Joe – Husband to Lara/McNamara’s Brother in law  Rachel – McNamara’s 10 year old niece Review: Detective McNamara is working two cases. He’s working on one that is personal to him and the other is for his job. The personal case takes him out of town where he meets Shannon, on what he assumes will end up being a one night stand. By the end of the story, she’s more than a one night stand, she even helps him talk to a family who has suffered a tragedy which helps him with his personal case. This novella is very detailed oriented and fast paced, but definitely and interesting beginning to the series. You can definitely read this during your lunch hour. As a side note…as I was reflecting on this story and reading the character lists, a thought came to me regarding the Detective’s niece and now I have to go read the next book, while praying I’m not right. So I say, read this novella and the rest of the series, because that’s what I’m planning on doing soon!! ARC read in exchange for honest review.

While attempting to solve two cases and deal with a one-night stand that never seems to end, we get a look into Nathan McNamara and how he ends up in Ashville. If you’re new to the Soul Summoner series, I highly suggest starting with this book! Elicia Hyder has developed characters you’ll fall in love with and a story line that will keep you turning the pages.

When I red trough the short thriller story I ,could not find any real action in it! from me there should have been some shocking actions! but insteed it was quite average throughout the story! There was some clean romance and i actually would compare it with a clean romance short story! with an actually a strange ending for this book part! for people who like a clean romance story ,fine!! storyline is good and so the story and lovely main characters! For me just a little bit more then average!

This is the prequel (novella) to THE SOUL SUMMONER series. Although a part of a series, this is a stand alone. Detective Nathan McNamara has his hands full. His latest one night stand is becoming anything but. Just his luck, he picked up on Shannon .. who works for a news station. While trying to dodge her attentions, he's working a string of burglary cases. But when the robbers find a young girl in their latest target, they don't hesitate to kill her. With his lieutenant screaming for the cases to be solved and with nothing that links the houses, he's beside himself. Having a 'girlfriend' who's wanting a commitment and a mother who's already planning a wedding and he thinks a whiskey bottle might be a very good idea. In his off time, he's linked 11 missing women to a single perpetrator. And he has a special link to one of them. McNamara is a great character. He's funny, serious, dedicated, and undeniably a player. I love how he interacts with Shannon, and his mother is a hoot! The first book in this series is THE SOUL SUMMONER. It is a full length novel that continues with his hunt for a possible serial killer. I am so looking forward to reading the entire series.

A good quick read. Less than 100 pages. This had a little romance but it was focused more on solving the 11 missing women case and the burglary case. This was a good introduction to the thinking of Nathan (the main character of the series). This was a good writing style and I look forward to more by this author.
