I knew there was something dark in Brandon Small from watching "Home Movies". My favorite episode being where the kids filmed a musical based on the life of Kafka. The songs were actually pretty clever. As the driving force of Metalocalypse, he lets his inner Viking loose in the fictional band Dethklok. Yes, even though the band technically doesn't exist (which reminds one of the Gorillaz), I'd stack Dethklok up against most "real" metal bands out there. The songs are just the right length. The humor/almost parody comes from the content. It trods the well worn terrain of Metal tradition (fantasy, mythology, Norse history, obsession with death) but puts a surreal spin on it. My favorite track, "Murmaider", takes what could be a cliche serial-killer concept but makes the murderers into mermaids. Why? Why the heck not? If you can find it, I would recommend the deluxe edition of The Dethalbum. The second disc contains a few more songs (including the Duncan Hills Coffee jingle), a great track of Dethklok in the studio ("I'm in here now!"), and CD-ROM tracks of the "Bloodrocuted" video and the first full episode of Season 2.

It does not matter that this album is not out yet. It does not matter that you have not heard the blistering hot metal from the pit of the underworld rising like boiling blood to your ears that are DETHKLOK'S songs in their entirety. This album will be the greatest metal album ever to be released on the face of the planet. Kill yourself after hearing this because you will never in the rest of your life experience anything better. Nothing. Ever.

This album is amazing!! If you are a fan of the show will love this album! Honestly...even if you've never watched the show and just like death/thrash will still love this album! Everything about this album is amazing! If you haven't heard this album....listen to it and if you haven't watched it and you will appreciate this album that much more!

Few people would have thought that a debut album based on a cartoon band could be so tightly written and performed! The headbangers will love the album, and fans of the show will recognize familiar cuts and segments (plus a little extra). Brenden Small, one of the creative minds behind the equally awesome "Home Movies" animated series, provides most of the songwriting, and if I'm not mistaken, much of the vocal and musical work as well, along with several well-known real-life metalheads. My personal favorite is Thunderhorse, especially because I can rock out to it in Guitar Hero, but the extras are MOST DEFINITELY worth the price of the deluxe edition. A little more comical, they provide a deeper look into the world's most powerful cultural force, Dethklok. Sign your liability waiver and prepare to be blasted!
