Timeless, charming and heartwarming – this story may have originally been written twenty years ago but it is just as valid and valuable now as it was then. Melanie “Mel” Abercrombie and Kane Stoddard’s story begins with letters sent to Kane when he most needed them. As soon as he was able to he made it his mission to seek out Mel, the woman that had made the past three years of his life bearable. The two have much in their past to overcome and a few current issues to deal with, too, but the ending is just what I was hoping for. In the first few pages I was hooked by the writing. The heartwarming characters, the backstories, the family interactions, the small town closing of ranks and so much more made this a wonderful read and took me back to an experience of my own…one in which a pen pal of mine showed up at my college dorm as soon as HE was discharged from the army and had finished his tour in Vietnam. Our meeting was NOT to play out as Kane and Mel’s did but this book did remind me of that experience and how much letters sent to someone else can impact their life. Thank you to Net Galley and Victory Editing for the copy of this book to read and review.

Kane Stoddard was wrongfully convicted of robbing a bank and killing a man. He has spent the last three years in jail and his lifeline to the outside world have been letters from Melanie Abercrombie of Hardeevill, Mississippi. She has written about small town life, her family, and everything in general. After another man confesses to the robbery/murder, Kane's conviction is overturned and he is released. He decides to visit Mel and is very surprised that she is not a little old woman, but instead an attractive young woman. They overcome an awkward introductions and eventually Kane agrees to help Mel and her father as a handyman for the remodel of the family business. Kane ends up living with Mel and her family, which causes a lot of stress/drama. They become friends and eventually it leads to more. Will Kane be able to make a relationship work with Melanie in a small southern town? Read and find out. This was a classic romance between a good girl and bad boy. It is full of romance, drama, and fun supporting characters. I was given a free copy for an honest review by

This is a delightful and heart warming love story between two very unlikely people. One, an ex-con wrongly convicted of murder and the other a prim and proper woman that has only dated one man. While a predictable plot, the author has such a wonderful way of telling her tale that you can't help but be charmed and pulled into the story. If you are looking for a sweet and delightful romance, this is a great choice. I have enjoyed many of the author's works and have added her to my must read authors' list.
