For the first time in her life, Hedley Sinclair holds the keys to her own future. She's inherited the crumbling Greyson Park, but the disrepair does nothing to dissuade her. He's determined to claim Greyson Park, but if Hedley isn't careful, he'll claim her heart as well.

Rafe has every intention of ridding Greyson Park of the conniving Sinclairs once and for all. Even worse, he can't help falling in love with her.

With this installment of the Rakes of Fallow Hall series, Ms. Lorret went straight for the heartstrings! Hedley Sinclair has been invisible for most of her life, locked away in the attic of her parents’ home and treated poorly. An inheritance of a house from her grandfather has given her the independence and freedom she craves and even though the house is sorely in need of repairs, it’s all hers and a ticket to being in control of her life. Unless Rafe Danvers gets his way. Rafe has made no secret of the fact that he wants the house that once belonged to his family and he would do anything to get it back. Finding out that he had been played by a Sinclair again made him furious, especially because of his history with the Sinclairs. I enjoyed reading the first book in the series, The Elusive Lord Everhart but there was so much to love about The Devilish Mr. Danvers. The dialogue, the interactions and friendship among the group at Fallow Hall was fun to read. While Hedley was shunned by her family, Rafe’s family was shunned by society and he was abandoned by his socially conscious fiancee, who is Hedley’s sister. But while Rafe is intent on restoring honor to his family’s name, Hedley just wants to take charge of her life. Initially Rafe was annoying in his attempts to intimidate Headley and take ownership of the house, but her strength was attractive to him and he makes himself her protector when he hears her story. Hedley was a very lovable character, utterly lacking in guile and with an honest and unfiltered appreciation for new experiences. It was very satisfying seeing her grow from the scared woman in the beginning into a bold and spirited woman, Ms. Lorret has written a solid and interesting addition to her Rakes of Fallow Hall series with a strong woman whose past will have the reader wanting to step in and right the wrongs done to her and the one man who does. With an interesting cast of characters, The Devilish Mr. Danvers is a great read and I look forward to the next book in the series. *I received this book for free from the Author in exchange for an honest review. The red shoes are instrumental in understanding Hedley. I was captivated and couldn't help but to glance at my own "red shoes".

Vivienne Lorret continues to entertain with the second of The Rakes of Fallow Hall series. This is the story of Rafe Danvers and Hedley Sinclair. Rafe was stood up at the altar by Hedley's sister 6 years ago and has sworn to never marry. Hedley has been invisible for most of her life and treated poorly by her mother and sister. She has now inherited property from her grandfather and decides to live there and fix it up. Rafe wants this property, which belonged to his family many years ago. Rafe tries to marry Hedley off to Montwood which solves two issues, Hedley loses the property if she marries and Montwood loses the wager if he marries. The only problem is that as Rafe spends time with Hedley, he starts to develop feelings for her and he also wants to protect her from her family. Love between the two grows until it can't be denied. This is a heartwarming, intriguing story that will keep the reader captivated until the very end.

Loved It! The Devilish Mr. Danvers is the second book in The Rakes of Fallow Hall series. This is another amazing story by Vivienne Lorret. Hedley Sinclair is an innocence, sweet heroine who has been ignored and mistreated by her mean sister and mother. Now she's inherited the crumbling Greyson Park from her grandfather and she wants to make a future for herself, if only the handsome Rogue, Rafe Danvers, let her. Rafe has been jilted at the altar by Hedley's sister 6 years ago and he hates Sinclair family. Now he is close to get back the Greyson park, the estate that belonged to his family long time ago, he realized that Hedley's mother has lied to him and the house belonged to Hedley. This a wonderful story with adorable heroin and charming hero that I couldn't put it down.I had hoped that something bad would happen to Ursa, the evil sister, but.... Thank you Vivienne Lorret

I really enjoyed The Elusive Lord Everhart, the first in this series, so I was excited to jump into this one.  With a familiarity of the rakes, and Rafe in particular, this story held promise.   A love affair gone pear shaped, Rafe’s ex fiancés family holds the keys to the tumbledown Greyson Park.  He’s wanted the property, believes he should have inherited it, and to get his own back at the Sinclairs for a while now, and it appears that Hedley is the way to get his desires.   Hedley is unique for the time, and develops into a wonderfully competent and strong woman as the story progresses.  Essentially ‘hidden’ from society and treated poorly by her family, her wish and goal, to live life on her own terms, comes true when she inherits Greyson Park from her grandfather.  Despite some fairly desperate and dilapidated circumstances, she is growing and changing: taking charge of her life and her estate with flair. There’s just one kink in the works: Rafe.  Holding a grudge and nursing a broken heart from a faithless fiancé who just happens to be the sister of the new owner in residence  at Greyson Park is not going to be a problem for Rafe. Or so he thinks.  The moral character (or lack thereof) of the Sinclair family is  proven to be fickle in his estimation, and the curvaceous and beautiful chit is just one more obstacle.  Boorish and abrasive at first, his behavior is wholly driven by his hurt, but with Hedley’s refusal to back down and allow him to bulldoze her, and her stalwart refusal to descend to the rudeness he displays is making an impact on his thoughts.   Rafe isn’t truly mean or spiteful, he’s a bit immature and childish, but not truly vengeful deep down. Sure, he wants what he feels is his,  but Hedley’s strength and story, once he starts to realize her own trials, do make a difference. And of course, when the villain appears  to show everyone just what true despicable intentions are, Rafe can’t help but protect what he wants. His only problem is determining if  that want is Greyson Park or its very lovely owner.  He could just lose both if his priorities aren’t organized properly.  With secondary characters and plenty of interactions, this is a lovely, fun story as enjoyable as the first.  The return of several of the other rakes, and a few new additions and friendships for Hedley fill out the story, as do the descriptions and details that help to build  tension with a tiny mystery of hidden treasures and the dangers from a highly motivated villain.   A wonderful addition to The Rakes of Fallow Hall series, I can’t wait for the next book!  I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via Edelweiss for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review:  all conclusions are my own responsibility.

This book was great! The story was unique and I loved all of the characters (well, except for the ones I was supposed to hate.). Maybe I should have figured it out sooner, but I didn’t catch on to the mysterious treasure until it was revealed. I felt the author did a great job of keeping me guessing. Hedley is a pretty fascinating character. I can’t imagine that anyone who grew up the way she did would turn out so strong and resourceful, but the author made me believe it. I so wanted to be her friend, to right the wrongs done to her, and give her the attention and affection she deserved. She is a mix of stubborn wit and broken fear, that made me laugh and tugged on my heartstrings, Rafe. That man blows heat right off of the pages to burn your skin. He’s good and kind but also an arrogant, trampling jerk (granted some of that attitude is bred from being left at the altar and finding out that his runaway fiance never really cared for him, but still...). Until he meets Hedley. She not only spikes his blood pressure with her curves, he finds himself admiring her strength and she whittles her way under his hard exterior bringing out that softer, protective side. Both Hedley and Rafe are after the same thing and are at odds to gain it. However, a common enemy brings them together and the closer they get the more likely it is that the passion between them will explode. The sexual tension between these two is seriously palpable. The other occupants of Fallow Hall are a hoot and I enjoyed getting to know them. I’m hooked on the series and the previous one that this is a spinoff of. I’ll be adding those to my kindle and be lost in reading them in no time! A fun and intriguing story, I give it 5 historical stars.
