Robert Waiser's diary describes how he served first in the Territorial Army, then joined the 18th Hussars. It goes on to tell how he was captured in one of the opening actions of the First World War. The rest of the book recounts life as a prisoner of war in Germany until he was released in a prisoner exchange through the intervention of neutral doctors.
