The Doctor Wears A Stetson: The Sweeter Version: Book One by Anne Marie Novark

AUTHOR'S WARNING: This is a SWEETER (NOT sweet and clean) version of The Doctor Wears A Stetson. It's the same characters and story, but with love scenes that are less graphic and explicit. If you want a hotter sexier read, check out the original version in The Diamondback Ranch Series

BLURB:

Jessie Kincaid was fifteen and innocent when Cameron asked her to the prom. She lost her heart that night, but his plans didn't change. He left their small town to pursue his dreams.

Seventeen years later, a trip home leads Cameron McCade back to Salt Fork, Texas and the newly widowed Jessie Devine. Since his return, the fire between them burns as hot as ever. Can they take up where they left off? Can Jessie risk her heart again?

EXCERPT:

Jessie opened the screen door and turned toward Cameron. This was it, then. The end. Her fairy-tale prom night was over. "Thank you for a wonderful time," she said, holding out her hand, feeling like a fool.

Cameron stared at her hand, then at her. His face was taut, as if he were in pain. His blue eyes burned like jewels. Jessie wondered what was wrong.

Suddenly, he reached out and pulled her to him, arching her slender body into his. "I have to have one more kiss, Jess. One . . . more . . . kiss."

His mouth crushed down on hers. This wasn't an obligatory goodnight kiss, Jessie thought, her heart hammering in her chest. This was a kiss like you read about in novels or watched at the movies. He must feel something for her, or he wouldn't be kissing her like this. How was she going to stand it when he left forever?

Cameron broke the embrace and set her away from him. "Good bye, Jess." He didn't look at her again, didn't turn to wave. He got in his truck and drove away into the night and out of her life.

Seventeen years later . . .

The atmosphere sizzled in the small office. Jessie stood like a statue, her eyes opened wide. "Why did you come back?" Her raspy voice held a note of accusation.

In two long strides, Cameron was beside her. She backed against the file cabinet. He stepped closer.

"You know why I'm back. We need to finish what we started seventeen years ago." He touched a finger to her cheek, traced the smooth line of her jaw, eased his hand behind her neck and pulled her to him. Her trembling intensified and she put her hands on his chest as if to ward him off.

He caught her hands and moved them over his heart. "Feel my heartbeat, Jess. It's beating for you." He pressed his body against hers. "Feel how much I want you. I tried to stay away, but God help me, I couldn't."

His mouth claimed hers in fierce desire. Jessie moaned, holding back only for a second, knowing deep down resistance was hopeless.

She couldn't help it . . . she kissed him back.

Anne Marie is a Texas girl, born and raised. Romance is her passion. She loves to read and write about men and women falling in love, overcoming life’s obstacles, and living happily ever after. She writes spicy contemporary novels, usually involving a cowboy or two, as well as Regency historicals.

Married to her high school sweetheart, Anne Marie and her husband spend their leisure time working (actually playing) in the yard and renovating their 1956 custom-built house on a one-acre lot in the middle of the city. They have two grown children, three white rabbits, two mischievous cats, and one sweet puppy dog.

This 'young love realized years later' story started well. I was a bit leery of a 15 yr old heroine almost 'going all the way' but the author turned that around nicely with an honorable hero. There were several places info was repeated, a few typos and the pacing after the middle dragged. I also was very frustrated by the heroine and her motivation. If she was always in love with the hero, why did she marry another man? Why did she 'blindly' accept her supposed medical condition without ever checking it out? Why did she feel she had to be loyal to a dead husband without even knowing why? And why if the husband was such a "good man" did he hate the neighbors so greatly? She blew hot and cold so often I wanted the hero to simply walk away and never come back! The conflict between the couple was resolved by page 100, so the rest of the book really made little sense and just added to my frustration with the heroine. The hero went 100% while she did nothing, and that really bothered me. He bordered on being a wimp, even if he was determined and romantic (by the way-- roses left on a porch in the middle of winter that don't die? seriously?). There were lots of townspeople, too, almost too many to keep track. To be frank, the family wasn't developed enough to make me want to buy the rest of the series, and that made me a bit sad. Overall, this is a good SWEET read (takes you to the bedroom door and shuts in firmly in your face) that's perfect for a snowy afternoon or day at the beach.

I loved the writing in this one but I was ready to strangle Jessie! I've never read a character who was so determined to crush her own happiness. Thank goodness Cameron was a strong, patient man! This author did a good job with keeping the story flowing.

Cute an clean. I LOVED IT! Was a refreshing love story, I felt uplifted and happy when I finished it. I will definetely purchase the remaining three books in the series that deal with the other brothers. How nice to read a story that does not border erotica!

I think the author should have researched the automotive mechanic part a little more. I was okay with it until she ruined the warranty on a brand new Jag. I cringed and my engineer son-in-law said even someone green in the industry wouldn't be that boneheaded. The story characters were good. It is not uncommon for people with abandonment issues to act like Jessie. Worth reading. Loved the small town closeness. I moved from Houston Medical complex to small town to be with my family and never regretted it.
