About the Author

Heather is an author of fantasy, in all its many sub-genres. Living green, saving endangered species, helping other writers, and supporting fabulous authors are a few of her passions. She is also a volunteer for the IS Foundation which works to make the world a greener place. When she's not volunteering, writing, or surfing her social networking sites, she can be found on the slopes, the hiking trails, or on horseback. As a native Oregonian, she enjoys the outdoors almost as much as the worlds she creates on the pages. No need to travel to the Great Northwest though, you can find her on her blog, other social networking sites, and Monday night's on Twitter where she co-moderates the #WritersRoad chat.

Reviewed by Lit Amri for Readers' Favorite In a time of peace, the dragon race lives harmoniously with the different races of people. But not all dragons are content with their race way of life. Some of them want to rule the world with the other races before them. The dragon rulers, however, are ignorant of the danger signs, thinking that the peace is forever and that the troublesome dragons are few in numbers and can be controlled under their watch. Grendar, an emerald dragon from the architect class, has witnessed the very first sign of strong rebellion and cruelty that his fellow dragons inflict on people. He takes a great risk to save the race of people and his own kind. "The Dragon Empire" is another great fantasy novel with dragon theme written by Heather McCorkle. First chapter is exciting, filled with suspense as Grendar, the young emerald dragon, is chased by Sidean and his brothers, the ultimate bullies in the forms of black chromatic dragons. Grendar immediately became my favorite dragon and other readers will definitely root for him as well, but he is the unlikely hero. His romance with his dragon lady, the beautiful skydancer Ashanti, is sweet. There were times when I forgot that they were dragons, not people. This book is very well-written, the dialogues are sharp and I like the way McCorkle categorized the dragons to certain type and classes – it made the story more authentic, differentiating it from other dragon-themed novels. A must read for fantasy fans!

Fantastic Epic Fantasy! Told from a dragon's point of view, this tale of bravery and self-sacrifice is a must read for fantasy fans. It's more mature than Heather's earlier work~geared more for an older YA audience and adults I believe~so be prepared for a bit of violence and some difficult subject matter such as bullying and assault.

Grendar is officially my new favorite dragon. He's the ultimate underdog. Picked on from the egg, too shy to tell the girl he loves how he feels, and constantly bullied by an overgrown brute of a dragon, you'll be rooting for Grendar from the first page. As he grows and matures throughout the book, I found myself cheering with his every victory and sighing over each defeat. If you've never read fantasy before, this is the book to introduce you. And if you're a fantasy fan, welcome the newest star of the genre, Heather McCorkle. Rating 4.5 stars!

This story, The Dragon Empire, is exactly what this dragon lover wanted and needed in a fantasy story. Heather, kudos for a job well done. Grendar grew on me from page one. He's a very likable character, the kind of person we all know and want to root for. Or maybe it's my fascination with the underdog's tale that drew Grendar closer to my heart with each turn of the page. By the end, I wished I had a pair of frilly pom poms to cheer for him and for those in his corner. Suffice it to say, I'm digging in my heels waiting for the next installment of this series.

I love books about dragons set in a society type story.  This one fills all my expectations.  I am anxious to read the rest of the stories about these lifelike characters and their search for a better world for humans, dragons, and other creatures.
