The Dream Chair is set in the family kitchen which is where the family meets for meals. A toddler is placed in the chair by his grandmother to help keep her company while she prepares the morning meal. The toddler falls asleep in the security of the kitchen, with the grandmother close at hand. His imagination is explored in his deep dream with pleasant thoughts of colorful animals and beautiful scenery, but he is also aware of the kitchen itself. The activities involved with the making of breakfast drift into the toddlers dream. He feels the grandmother's presence as she lovingly prepares food for the family's first meal of the day. The toddler receives his nourishment both physically and emotionally as he realizes his family is around him.
