Kent Avery (the eponymous Duke) has a lot to live up to. His entire family has been involved in spy work and the military and it doesn't help when "big brother" is actually his older brother!! He has a playboy character and flaps his eyelashes at all the ladies. He gets what he wants whilst making others think that he's nothing more than a pretty face. But looks can be deceiving. He is whip smart and has a darker side which we learn more of through the book. He has a strong streak of honour and he can see beneath the surface of most peoples, probably a byproduct of him being the master of hiding his own nature. But when he meets the exotic Elena his work is cut out with her. This is her "interview" into the Knights and she thinks its part of the mission to put up with this annoyingly handsome man, cos he can't be her partner, can he?? Elena is fighting her own demons after being disfigured and she no longer sees herself as the perfect soldier she had been. The Duke of Ambra is continuing the wonderful world created by Lyn where the heroes are handsome and intelligent and understand the worth of their female partners. No James Bond machismo allowed, LOL. Snappy repartee and wonderfully real emotions and back story for both characters. I can't wait for the next in the series and to see inside the HQ and meet their "Miss Moneypenny" - she sounds awesome!!! My only question now is - How do I join the knights???????
