Overview

The tawdry tale of the Duke and Duchess of Dunwoody continues...

Maggie Armstrong, the long-lost illegitimate daughter of the heir presumptive to the throne, is bedeviled by her husband's limited definition of fidelity. After observing him in a ménage à trois at the court of King Charles II, she is determined to bring him around to her way of thinking-
by any means necessary.

Robert doesn't mind being punished for his transgressions. Rather, he enjoys being whipped, especially by his beloved bride. Unfortunately, her heart might not belong to him alone. His younger brother, who he'd sent abroad to clear the way for himself, is coming home sooner than expected, and Maggie's feelings for Hugh may not be as dead as her husband had hoped.

Both duke and duchess soon learn, to their peril, Hugh Armstrong is not the honorable man they'd been led to believe. Insanely jealous of his brother's situation, Hugh will stop at nothing to strip Robert of all he holds dear-including his life.

But the real danger for Robert and Maggie is not the villainous marquess, but the growing friction betwixt Catholics and Protestants in Restoration Era Great Britain.

Can their love survive the trials that await them?

Exquisite, deliciously naughty and enthralling! Maggie and Robert, Duke and Duchess of Dunwoody, are on their way back home to Balloch Castle from Edinburgh; she’s mad at him because at the king’s castle, the Duke participated in a threesome. They barely have time to settle home when Robert’s brother Hugh returns from France with his new bride. Maggie is flustered because she’d had her eye on Hugh until Robert tried to convince her that Hugh wasn’t good enough for her, then Robert sneakily sent his brother away because Robert wanted Maggie for himself.  THE DUKE’S BEDEVILED BRIDE is the second book of the Royal Pains series, and although it might be better to have read the first instalment, THE DUKE’S BEDEVILED BRIDE can be read as a standalone; as we go along, Ms. Mason inserts essential background details; nevertheless, this book is so good, it’s worth it. The sinful Duke and his voyeuristic young bride have a relationship that is sometimes tense: Maggie loves her husband but doesn’t always quite understand the Duke’s sexual practices. However, Hugh’s return gives her some welcome ideas: she’ll show her husband that two can play that game.  THE DUKE’S BEDEVILED BRIDE is very sexy, very erotic with the ever naughty Duke pushing Maggie’s limits, and at times her buttons as well; the relationship between Robert and Maggie is one of deep love, but it is complicated. Ms. Mason writes a sweeping erotic romance based on solid historical and political facts, and this book has a lot of action, political intrigue, and it is very fast-paces. The author’s research is impeccable and extensive. It has a feeling of authenticity that is felt even down to minute details, which matter a lot given the context, and the author’s knowledge of fencing adds unbelievable excitement to one particular scene. THE DUKE’S BEDEVILED BRIDE is magnificently written, and the author is as careful with her use of language as she is with everything else. Maggie and Robert continue to grow as characters; Maggie is one of the most wonderful and fascinating characters I have ever encountered. The story is exciting, with several wicked, enthralling plot twists: it’s impossible to stop put down when you reach the latter part of the book. The sex is off the charts, the romance exquisite, and the least I can say is that the plot thickens! And the ending? I gasped, literally.  Even if you don’t usually read erotica, or BDSM, but if you’re open to it, take a chance on THE DUKE’S BEDEVILED BRIDE, it is definitely a must-read: the story is riveting, the writing is absolutely splendid, the characters are fabulously complex. A most astonishing book!

I am enjoying this series and look forward to the further adventures of Maggie and Robert. Their lives have not been easy, and this story shows how family can be there for you or against you. The abuse that Maggie undergoes by a man that she once thought she loved is a lot to bear, but she does not give into despair. Her dominant side comes to her rescue as she turns the table on her captor. Robert is completely unaware of his wife's predicament as he fights off assailants of his own to fall prey to religious fanatics and actually loses his memories. As with the first book, I could not put it down. I needed to know how they were going to survive and find their way back to each other. I look forward to the next installment.

I was hooked on Nina Mason's writing after the first book in the Royal Pains series, but the second book, Duke's Bedeviled Bride took me to a whole new level of fan girl. This book had romance, history, and plenty of action to go around. It kept me guessing and on the edge of my seat to see what would happen. Mason totally outdid herself with this exciting installment in the series and I will be having serious withdrawl until I can get my hands on book three!

Entertaining, steamy, and enjoyable history lesson. Favorite Quotes: “If only she’d take him over her knee and spank him the way his mother used to do.  He always felt cleaner afterward.  Like a dirty shirt freshly laundered.” “Robert fixed his brother with an incinerating glare.  If only he could reduce that conniving weasel to ash on the spot.” “‘Loving does not make a man weak.’  Robert stared into his brother’s fading eyes.  ‘Giving his heart completely to a woman – whether she is his mother or his wife – is the bravest thing a man can do.’” My Review: I adore Nina Mason.  She is an ingenious and sneaky tutor as she has managed to teach me not only Scottish and English history lessons, but a religious history lesson as well.  Certainly my elderly mother can no longer berate me for wasting my time reading fiction!  This is my second Nina experience and I continue to find her writing entertaining, intelligent, and clever.  Her narrative is so clear and crisp, her words run like a movie reel in my head.  This volume is far more serious and drama filled than the first jaunty outing, although she does not disappoint when the time comes for the sizzle and spice.  I am undoubtedly hooked.  More please.

This is the second book in this series; you must read them in order. This is not a standalone. I liked this one just as much as the first book. Maggie and Robert have a loving marriage and are trying to find their way. Maggie is learning to her husband’s likes and wants to make him happy but be happy herself at the same time. After an incident in the first book she is trying to find a balance with Robert. She is worried she won't be enough and he will stray from her. Turns out this should be the least of her worries. She once had feeling for Robert's brother Hugh and he is returning from his time in France with a new bride. Robert has always told her that she doesn't know the real Hugh and she is going to learn that her husband was telling her the truth. Robert has to go away and she is left home with Hugh and his new bride. She quickly learns Hugh's true nature. I was surprised by Hugh's true nature. I felt for Maggie and all she had to endure will Robert was away. But, as always Maggie finds a way to show just how strong she is. I must say I love Maggie. She is finding her way but is true to herself in the process. Robert is learning how to compromise and take Maggie's wants and feelings into consideration. This series is great and I hope there will be another book in the series. Nina is a great author she writes a story the draws you in. The characters are engaging and you feel for them and what they are going through in the story. I can't say enough about this series or the author. I don't want to give any spoilers away so I will stop now. I was given this book in return for an honest review.

I think I can safely say that I've never hated a character from a book. Until now. This is the second book in the Royal Pains set and I liked this one a bit more than the first.  The story continues with some really interesting twists. I absolutely recommend reading the first book, The Devil in Dukes Clothing! The love Robert and Maggie share is wonderful! All encompassing and deeply felt. Though Robert had some making up to do in this second novel, Maggie really wants to forgive him. He just has to pay his penance first. The twists in the story are completely unexpected! Roberts brother Hugh, announces his return with a new french wife in tow. She speaks very little English so this should be interesting. There is much unrest with regards to religion in England and with the estate in Scottland, it is hard for Robert to stay at home and not get involved in the matters at hand. He feels he must go to London. Their coach was beset by highwaymen on the way home from London not very long ago, so Robert decides to leave Maggie behind though he does not want to be parted from her. It is the only way he knows to keep her safe. The Duke and Duchess part on better terms after an incident that makes Robert realize how Maggie felt about his misstep at court right after they were married. So she is left behind with Hugh and his new wife. Meanwhile, Robert is off to try to talk to his King about all the things going on. Things start to happen that Robert expected, but then the unexpected happens. Robert is attacked on the street, because of his religion he is brutally beaten and robbed. Then left for dead. He comes to in an unknown house and does not remember who he is or how he got there. Meanwhile, back at Dunwoody, Hugh has some interesting ideas about "household felicity" and is eager to share them with Maggie. He has harbored a jealousy like no other I've ever read about. Everything he has is not enough. He wants to have all the Robert has. And he is willing to make that happen in any way possible. He is hateful in this book. I really did not like him at all! But I guess that was the author's intention! I loved the outcome of this book! I really like Maggie and Robert. He has his issues, but he is a good man at heart! And it was wonderful to get to know a bit more about Maggie's Father. This is a steamy story with some bondage play, ok, quite a bit actually, but not overwhelming.  The story is the shining part of this novel and I look forward to reading more about The Duke and Duchess of Dunwoody. *I received an advanced copy of this title in exchange for my honest review*

Dazzling! Sultry and equally romantic tale that continues the story of Maggie Armstrong, and her beloved  Robert, Duke of Dunwoody, as they try to adapt to each other’s own concept of marriage and love.  Maggie is still somewhat hurt from what transpired during their visit to the King and is not sure their marriage is what she wants it to be. She loves her husband but feels his fetishes may come in between their love and marriage. On the other hand, Robert wants nothing more than to make it up to Maggie for his transgressions and although he tries very hard, it seems that nothing he does will ever be enough for her (not that I blame Maggie). However, and because he’s very well aware of his particular needs, he also thinks she’s too good for him and questions if she in fact may regret marrying him at all.  To me, this story was not only clearly well-researched and amazingly well-written but it’s also a story about a couple trying to find that middle ground that will make them both happy. Yes, it’s an erotic tale with scorching sex scenes but most of it happens between a wife and a husband in love. The rest take place as part of the story and is congruent with the context and although I much rather not think how barbaric and vicious people tended to be, a story like this one goes to show it DID happen! Admittedly, there is one scene where Maggie feels compelled to make Robert pay for his “unfaithfulness” while at court and asks him to watch her while she completes her plan, but her heart outweighs her need for retribution and leaves before the deed is completed. I’m not excusing what she did but more than anything it sounded to me as if she was upset beyond thinking logically. There is also a moment when they were apart from each other and he might have succumbed to the charms of another yet he never stopped thinking about Maggie, even through hazed memories.  So, yes, it very much is an erotic story that will enlighten the reader in more ways than any history lesson learned in school, but it will also keep you enthralled from beginning to end, and will leave you wanting, if not panting for more. ** I was gifted a copy of this story in exchange for an honest review **

OMG  WHAT HAPPENS NEXT TO MAGGIE ?? WILL HUGH TAKE MAGGIE FROM ROBERT?? I received an ARC from the author Nina Mason in exchange for an honest opinion. This is mismousey’s very honest opinion of her book ” “THE DUKES BEDEVILED BRIDE”. Having had the honor of reading the first book in the series – The Devil in Dukes Clothing. Which I must say right here for everyone to know is a must read. If you haven’t read it yet – then you are really missing out on a fantastic story and author. I knew that I had to have more of the story of Robert and Maggie. I was so excited when Ms. Mason announced that Book 2 was in the works and would soon be available. Never did I realize that this one would be so powerful and romantic- along with erotic. Ms. Mason has a very unique writing style that is all her own. She does a tremendous amount of research for each she writes. As her books are historical novels- and she wants them to be the correct down to the point period that she is writing about. Making sure that what she writing actually did happen during that time period. Her characters are so enchanting- one minute you move them the next you might hate them. However, she makes them so well defined and describes them so well. You are able to picture each character in detail in the time period. With the correct clothing on. Her scenes well – lets just say they are so hot !! That after a bedroom scene or two you need a cold bath. LOL.. No really – the erotic scenes are very hot in this book and I did find myself needing to cool of a time or two. But I kept reading. Had to have more of the story. Just pictured myself in the book as one of the characters. Her covers – teasers- trailers- are all done by her. She even does her own promo. Ms Mason is considered an Indie author. Both books in the Royal Pains series are self-published. Before I give you my review of her delicious book. I had the pleasure this morning of sitting down with Ms, Mason and interviewing her. Good Morning and do I have a treat for everyone today!! This morning we have with us the very talented author Nina Mason.Thank you for joining us today. May I call you Nina?? Nina: Of course. Mousey: Now Nina, from reading your bio. I can see that you have written several books already. You have written The Tin Man, The Queen of Swords (which, may I say, is fantastic). And Devil in Duke’s Clothing, which is book 1 in the Royal Pains series. Now you have released today book 2 in the series. Is that correct??And can you tell us some about it?? Nina: Yes, Darlene. The Duke’s Bedeviled Bride is book two in my Royal Pains series. Book two picks up right where book one left off and careens off into another another adventure for Maggie and Robert Armstrong, the duchess and duke of Dunwoody, a fictional duchy in the border shires of Scotland. The series is highly erotic, features light BDSM, and is set during the reign of Charles II. For those who don’t know their British history, the first two books are set in 1680. I envision moving forward in history a few years as the series progresses. Mousey: when you are writing how do you come up with your characters?? Nina: Usually, I go through quite a process. I pick inspiration pictures to determine what they’ll look like, assign them astrological signs and personality traits, give them histories and issues, and work out how they’ll be attracted and conflicted in relation to their co-star and villains. With this book, I actually just started writing and filled in what I needed as I went along. I didn’t even know what time period I was in until I got a few chapters in. I chose the restoration period because it’s so full of decadence and danger–a great time to set an erotic romance! Mousey: at what age did you know that you know you wanted to be a writer and what or who inspired you to be one?? Nina: I’ve always had a way with words and was known at school as a good writer. If I entered a writing contest nobody else would because they believed I’d win. I usually did, too. Lol. I studied journalism in high school and college and wanted to be a newspaper reporter, but one thing led to another and I ended up in public relations, working mostly for very good colleges. I tried my hand at a romance novel in my early twenties (before computers, friends), but never did anything with it. A few years ago, when the economy crashed, I couldn’t find work, so I started to write what is now The Queen of Swords. From there, I just kept writing. The Duke’s Bedeviled Bride is my fourth book, but I’ve got two more already scheduled for release with Lyrical Press, the digital imprint of Kensington. Mousey: how did you come up with this series Royal Pains?? Nina: I wanted to write a quick series to fill the gap between The Tin Man and Starry Knight, which would have been a whole year. I’ve worked hard to build a fan base and feared they’d all fall away if they had to wait a whole year for my next book. So, I started Devil in Duke’s Clothing because I decided to try my hand at an erotic historical. I love historical romance. It’s about the only romance genre I read for my own enjoyment and I do like my romances on the steamy side. Royal Pains is on a par with Fifty Shades of Grey in terms of the erotic content, I’d say, but the writing style and characters are very different. Mousey: you write historical erotica and paranormal novels.. I know that you put a lot of research into each book that you write. Which genres do you prefer to read?? Nina: I think I just answered this. Lol. I have tried to read paranormal romance, but I just can’t get into it for some reason. I write the sort I’d like to read–intelligent, sexy, and based on mythology. Mousey: Do you currently have any books in the works right now?? Or is that a secret??? Nina: Not a secret. I need to start on my next book after I get past all the hoopla of releasing The Duke’s Bedeviled Bride. I have three choices: start on book three of Royal Pains, which I expect to release in October if all goes well; start on book three of Knights of Avalon (the series with Lyrical), which won’t release until the middle of 2016; or try to finish a book I shelved after writing about 40,000 words. I decided to try and finish the latter, since I have plenty of time to write the others afterward. The book is an urban fantasy with a romance element about a merman who gets trapped in an oil spill in the Minch, the strait between mainland Scotland and the Hebrides islands. Cuan, the hero, is one of the Blue Men of the Minch and the heroine is the corporate communications veep for the oil company. Like the Knights of Avalon, it’s set in the modern day, but plays on the mythology of the islands around Scotland. Mousey: How can your readers follow you??? Nina: I’m pretty active in social media, mostly Facebook. My Facebook author’s page is http://facebook.com/ninamasonromance. On Twitter, I’m @ninamasonauthor. I’ve also got a website (ninamasonauthor.com), a blog (ninamasonromance.blogspot.com), a YouTube channel with trailers for all my books, a Tsu account, and Pinterest boards. Mousey : Can you tell us some about yourself?? I know that you are an Indie author and that you have published some of your own books. Can you tell us about being an Indie author an what books you have published on your own ?? And where can we purchase them?? Nina: At this point, only the Royal Pains series is self-published–so I could get it out in between my books with publishers. The Queen of Swords and The Tin Man are with Vamptasy/CHBB and my forthcoming Knights of Avalon series is with Lyrical Press. Not sure yet what I’m going to do with my merman book. Need to finish it first and see how I feel about submitting it to publisher. As for purchasing my self-published books, you can purchase them from the following places. Amazon-Barnes & Nobles ( has paperback) and also my Esty shop at Esty.com. Now as to how it feels to be an Indie author, that’s a good question. Like swimming in a tank full of sharks. Lol. Seriously, it’s hard work and I have no budget to do marketing, so I have to rely on social media. It’s very tough to be noticed when there are so many other authors pimping their books to the same people. Mousey: Is there anything else that you would like to tell your readers Nina?? Nina: My books tend to be a bit on the dark side and contain more history than the typical genre read. If you pick up one of my books expecting the same old fare, you’ll be surprised–pleasantly, I hope. Mousey: I know that your book are on Amazon US & UK , Barnes & Nobles and that your readers can add them to the TBR on Goodreads. Nina: Yes, they’re on Amazon in lots of different countries, both as e-books and paperbacks. The paperbacks are also available through Barnes & Noble online. Thank you so much for joining us today!! Make sure that you go out and get your copy of The Duke’s Bedeviled Bride. It is a must-read by all!!! Adults that is.. The Duke’s Bedeviled Bride by Nina Mason is the second installment in the Royal Pains series. The first book, The Devil in Duke’s Clothing, should be read before reading the second book. I absolutely loved this book, possibly even more than I did the first book. There were plenty of twists and turns, which kept me tethered to my phone until I had finished the book. Although there were plenty of sex scenes, this book was a little more focused on the established relationship between Maggie and Robert and the trials they encounter from Robert’s brother, Hugh, and the growing conflict between Catholics and Protestants. The sex was hot, the conflicts had me cringing, and the characters were well written. I had already come to love Maggie and Robert from the first book, but enduring the trials with them, I grew to love them even more. I love how Nina Mason peppered historical terms and French throughout the novel (and for those, like me, who didn’t understand some of the words, she does include a short glossary of the terms in the back of the book). The book does end on a major cliffhanger, and I can’t wait for the next book to see how it resolves. I highly recommend reading this book (and the first, of course) because it was an engaging and exciting read in a well written historical setting.

.This is book 2 as we left Maggie and Robert at the end of book 1 we find Maggie very upset with Robert no spoilers from book 1. This can be a standalone but I enjoyed book 1 a lot and love the continuation of the story and how Robert and Maggie are changing and developing as this book moves on. The DUKE has some unusual taste in his sex life and our Maggie is growing to like them also. The book is very erotic but is a great love story . Maggie learns well and I love this couple together. The author has done her research and the book is very true to the times and as all her books VERY well written, the details are fascinating .It shows love can prevail anything , I was glued to the story .I loved it 5 stars all the way.
