He must steal a lady…then steal her love.

Desiring a man and never being noticed as more than his best friend's little sister has Lady Ellie Trentbury finally consigning herself to the truth. She must move on, and preferably with a man who lives far away from her home in London where she need never be reminded of the duke who stole her heart. An elopement with an honorable American shipping merchant sounds perfect.

The Duke of Ashten has no choice but to bound into his best friend's carriage when he discovers little Ellie is inside and intent on eloping with a man to Gretna Green who she barely knows. He can't allow her to make such a terrible mistake, yet convincing her might mean giving into his desire for the golden-eyed enchantress who has followed him around since he was a lad.

Her pouty lips and bountiful charms can no longer be ignored, only convincing her of the truth of his intentions will mean jeopardizing both his sanity and a lifelong friendship as well.

I so enjoyed this first Regency Romance from Joanne Wadsworth. She captured the feel and attitude of the time period and wove an exquisite story around Ellie and Ashten. Ellie has pined for Ashten since they were children. She is missing her brother, who is away at war, and believes that by helping his closest friend, Ashten, she will get closer to him. Ashten is adamant that he will not marry Ellie, even though they've shared some 'disrespectful kisses'. But Ellie's driven by the fact that her younger sisters can't marry until she does. So she opts to run away with another to Gretna Green. You know what they say about the best laid plans. This romance was very satisfying and it was so wonderful to witness the outcome of Ellie's steadfast resolve to drag Ashten back to the life he lived before the war. Well done, Ms. Wadsworth.

I'd give this novel 10 stars if I could. I couldn't put this book down. Ellie is such a fiercely loyal lady, and the Duke of Ashten is the perfect match for her. These two have known each other since their childhood and have such an amazing chemistry. The story took me on a whirlwind of adventure to Gretna Green, and I highly recommend this book to any Regency romance reader.

"THE DUKE'S BRIDE' by Joanne Wadsworth is the First Book in the New Series called " Regency Brides". This is the story of Ellie and Ashten. Ashten was Ellie's brother friend and she would trail after them. Ellie always knew she wanted Ashten but Ashten seem only to see her as his friends sister. Ashten saved her once and he did keep her Ribbon that as a good luck charm. But Ashten thought he loved another and when that didn't work he took himself into a self exile where he hardly went into public. But Ellie and her American friend Tidmore plan to try and draw him out with their relationship. This was such a sweet and easy read that you won't want to put down. Loved it! REGENCY ROMANCE SERIES:, The Duke's Bride, #1; The Earl's Bride, #2; The Wartime Bride, #3; The Secret Bride, #4; "My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read."

Lady Ellie Trentbury has always loved the Duke of Ashten. He's her brother's best friend, but he doesn't feel the same way. He's become a recluse who won't love again after the death of a woman he planned to propose to. Will he realize that he truly loves Ellie before he loses her? I liked Ellie. She's so full of life. Her winning personality made me smile. Ashten doesn't want to hurt anyone so he keeps to himself. What a stubborn man. He doesn't count on Ellie refusing to give up on him. I enjoyed their sweet and sassy banter. Their chemistry is amazing. I wanted these two to get their HEA. The secondary characters add to the drama. Joanne Wadsworth has written a story that has it all. There are charismatic characters and a passionate romance that made me feel good. This author always takes me too my happy place. The Duke's Bride is an excellent start to the Regency Brides series.

Wow! I have a new favorite Joanne Wadsworth book. The Duke's Bride is a phenomenal read. Ms Wadsworth has delivered a well-written story and filled it with amazing, lovable characters. Ashten and Ellie's story is loaded with drama, humor and sizzle. It's a fun historical romance. I loved this book from cover to cover and look forward to reading more from Joanne Wadsworth in the future. The Duke's Bride is book 1 of the Regency Brides Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger. I voluntarily read an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Wow!! What a fantastic job on a new series. The Duke's Bride Book 1 in the Regency Brides Series is fun, witty and romantic. Joanne Wadsworth held me captive for the get go. Duke of Ashten was doing a self imposed exile within his own home. Ellie, childhood friend, decided to take matters in her own hands to remedy the situation. She has been in love with Ashten since they were children, but Ashten never look at her the same way. Ellie comes out with a plan with an American (Tidmore) friend that forces Ashten to examine his feelings for her. Ashten doesn't want a wife, but he wants to show Ellie how love can be. I loved how Joanne teased me throughout the book with Ellie's and Ashten's sexual tension. A true love story born out of friendship and develops to new levels. The interaction between them is fun, witty, sexy and hot. I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. I highly recommend this book if you are looking for a fun love story. Series: The Duke's Bride Book 1 in the Regency Brides Series - can be read as a standalone. Characters: Strong, independent stubborn male and strong self-determined women who knows what she wants. Writing: Smooth, developed and well paced Storyline: Friendship turns to love with a HEA Heat: Burning 5 Koala Paws

He’ll never let her leave! Ellie has been in love with Ashten forever but now her sister wants to marry and her oldest brother and mother are pushing her to accept an offer. She’ll try one last time to convince Ashten that they belong together. When he flat out says he doesn’t want to marry her, she decides to elope to Gretna Green with Mr Tidmore who is a perfectly nice man. Since she can’t have the one she wants, she wants to be far away from him. Ashten isn’t going to let her go quite so easily. I liked Ellie but thought Ashten took too long to come around. He had his reasons (which you find out later in the story) which only confuses the issue and spurs her on. The story was predictable but fun. If Ashten had some better reasons for putting her off, the story would have worked better. (I voluntarily reviewed an ARC).

What to do when the man you have loved for a long time does not notice you? A fun story of childhood friends eventually turned to lovers and getting their Happy Ever After! This is the first book I have read by Joanne Wadsworth and now I wonder why it took me so long! Lady Ellie Trentbury has know most of her life that Pierce Blackgate, Duke of Ashten held her heart. Her brother's best friend, Ellie finally came to the conclusion he did not return her affections and decided she needed to move on and find a husband. Ashten had been been away from society after his own sad romance. But when Ellie decides to elope with her american friend, Ashten takes steps to save her. A wonderfully sweet story with characters you will love. Cannot wait to read more in this series! Lori Dykes

A Delightful story of childhood friends turned to lovers. Neighboring estates, early tragedy and family love that has made their bond strong. Lady Ellie Marie Trentbury, sister of the Earl of Winterly, is strong willed, loving and determined. She is loyal, steadfast, a bit mischievous, and has known her heart since she was eight. Her family is very dear to her and they are the rock on which her character is built. Ellie has decided to take the bull by the horns and go for her heart’s desire. Pierce Luke Blackgate, the Duke of Ashten, held Ellie within hours of her birth and he was six. The tragedy at age five could have destroyed him, but he was taken into the circle of the Trentbury family and he soared! He carries guilt for something completely out of his control. He is very concerned for his fellow soldiers, but was injured while fighting Napoleon, sent home and is being a bit of a grouch. Ms. Wadsworth has created a strong group of characters with equal amounts of love, humor, and loyalty. The care put into the conversations and the teasing was skillfully done. I was a bit frustrated with Ashten’s caddish behavior, but he was redeemed in GRAND fashion- well done. With this being the first in the Regency Brides series the groundwork was wonderfully laid for the adventures and HEAs to come. I am hopeful that a certain gentleman gets his own HEA, his willingness to sacrifice his future was overwhelming- I wanted to give him a hug. Thank you, Ms. Wadsworth, for this story and the future possibilities it holds. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

This is such a beautiful story, and set in one of my favorite eras in time to read, the Regency era. From the first page I was drawn in, and I couldn't stop reading until I got to the end. This book has it all, a loyal lady, and a handsome duke. I'm going to read this book again tomorrow. It is that delicious. I'm eagerly awaiting the second book in the series now.
