He knew he could never have her...

From the very moment Agnes Watkins walked into his life, Fletcher Banks, Earl of Wakefield, has wanted her. Agnes is not just beautiful, she's clever and determined. Despite her uncommon beauty, she refuses to conform to society's standards. She's also the sister of the man who holds Fletcher's career as a spy in his hands. And that makes her completely off-limits.

She thought she could change him...

Tall, impossibly broad, and handsome as a sin, Fletcher Banks is a brazen scoundrel. Known for his reputation as the greatest lover in London, he's the only man who's ever proved a temptation for Agnes. Her duties with the Ladies of Virtue means she can't overlook his lustful ways. The time has come to reform this rake.

Together their desire is undeniable.

With Agnes setting her virtuous sights on him, Fletcher can't ignore her any longer. Maybe spending more time with her will release him from his infatuation with her without falling further from her brother's good graces. But the more time they spend together, the harder it is to deny that this infatuation may be more than lust...

It's a charming story, but there are things I just didn't like and somethings that went unanswered. I love a forbidden love that is forced together story like this. There's a bit of a mystery with someone threating the group and a man that wants her for himself that brings them together. I loved that he had loved her for so long and that everyone sees it so clearly. Her brother was just like I thought he would be when it came to her. I also loved her friends seeing what she wasn't seeing. To me, they just seemed mismatched and I didn't really get the passion between them that I would expect. The thing of needing to change him just rubs me the wrong way. I love a reformed rake/rogue, but the setting out to change him I don't like. The Ladies of Virtue group doesn't fully make sense to me because it's not explained enough. Agnus lives in the shadow of her mother and is constantly hounded by men thinking she is like her mother. She just wasn't my cup of tea because she came off cold most of the time. I didn't like how she was ready to take on things but then turned around and mad decisions that made no sense to her kind of character. Just a little too naive at times for me. Fletcher has been beaten down by his grandfather for years and only wants to prove himself. I loved him right away because he was so naturally charming and spoke his mind. He never doubted his feelings and fought for her when he needed to. I only wish the stuff about his grandfather had been explained because it would have made it easier to understand him at times. Overall it wasn't my kind of read, but I know many that would love this kind of story. Copy provided for an honest and voluntary review

The Earl and the Reluctant Lady is an enjoyable addition to Robyn DeHart's Lords of Vice series that features Fletcher Banks, Earl of Wakefield. Fletcher is a member of the Seven and, as a rakish spy for the Crown, uses his charm and prowess with women to gain information. He meets Agnes Watkins at a ball and there is a mutual attraction, but he doesn't realize she is the sister of his superior. When her brother threatens Fletcher's career as a spy if he goes after Agnes, he is forced to walk away as he is dependent on the income from his career. Fast forward three years, and Agnes has joined and trained with the Ladies of Virtue and is determined to reform Fletcher. She takes him to task for his behavior and reputation as the Don Juan of London. When Agnes' brother leaves town to investigate who is threatening the Ladies of Virtue, he asks Fletcher to watch over Agnes. Talk about asking the fox to guard the hen house! Fletcher starts a courtship to protect Agnes and deter unwanted advances from men who think she is like her mother, who has had many lovers. Both realize how much they want each other and will do anything to be together - even defy Agnes' brother. DeHart gives Fletcher and Agnes a steamy romance with a HEA that can be read as a stand alone; however, she also features characters from previous books and the continuing mystery of Lady X. I enjoyed the previous book in the Lords of Vice series, so I was really looking forward to this one. Fletcher made a good hero. He was tired of having to seduce women in his job, while he couldn't have the one woman he really wanted...who was the sister of his superior. The relationship of Fletcher and his grandfather, and that of Agnes and her mother, were quite interesting. I also enjoyed seeing characters from the previous book. However, the book took place during the same time period as the previous book, so the story had a been-there-done-that vibe. Also, a mystery cliffhanger from the previous story was not resolved. My main issue, however, was the heroine. I just didn't particularly like her. Don't lecture the man about his vice (lust) when you suffer from the same one yourself...though it was only directed towards one man. The book was entertaining enough, though, that I want to read the next installment. I received an ARC of this book courtesy of NetGalley. I received no compensation for my review, and all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley in exchange for a fair review. The Earl And The Reluctant Lady is the third book in Robyn Dehart’s Lords of Vice series. Each book in the series is written as a stand-alone, however there are characters that appear in all 3 books. It’s love a first sight when Fletcher Banks, Earl of Wakefield sees Lady Agnes Watkins. She too is intrigued by him but nothing comes of it because her overprotective brother threatens Fletcher’s livelihood and he believes that he’s not good enough for her in any case. Three years later Fletcher is charged with protecting her while her brother is away and the feelings he’s been suppressing are making it difficult for him to keep his hands off of her. I struggled a bit with this story because I prefer a strong heroine. Agnes seems to hate herself and I found it made me uncomfortable. Medium Steam. This beautifully written story grabbed my heart and did not let go. Upon first sight, Fletcher, Earl of Wakefield saw her at a ball from a distance and knew he had to meet her. Unbeknownst to him, Agnes is the sister of the man who holds his job as a spy in his hands. Agnes is of course attracted to him as well, but with a warning he stays away and does not see her until three years later! A reputed rake and scoundrel, Fletcher plays his role well in getting information out of women for the good of the country. What you say? Well somebody has got to do it and he is a master of seduction. But when he sees Agnes again, he just cannot resist!! These two characters came alive with the wonderful words of Robyn Dehart. She captured my imagination with the storyline and I could not wait to see what happened! When they were together, sparks seemed to fly and they could not keep their feelings contained. Prepare to be delighted in this next installment of this amazing series!! I read this through NetGallery Lori Dykes

Wow… What a great book! The Earl and the Reluctant Lady by Robyn DeHart is book 3 in the Lord of Vice series. This is my first book I have read of Robyn’s but it won’t be the last and of course I have to get book 1 and 2 in this series so I can catch up. There is nothing better than finding a new author and I so enjoyed this story. Though this book is a part of a series it can be read as a standalone. Robyn has created such wonderful regency characters that I found myself cheering for them. Her descriptions are right on for that era and so clear and easy to picture. The story has a scandalous mother, secret society, protection, a rake and a rogue, friendships, over protective brother, creating weapons, a secret job, skepticism, misunderstandings, kindness, caring, a secret admirer, an enemy, madness and yes, love. For me this was such a wonderful surprise on how much I enjoyed this story and I highly recommend this book!! ***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.

I loved Fletcher and Agnes story!! Fletcher meets Agnes at a ball and it instantly infatuated with her, but her brother, who happens to be his boss, has warned him away from her. He allows himself one dance with her a year, any more and he would end up defying her brother's wishes. But that all changes when he is charged with protecting her. Can he do his job and still keep his distance? Agnes was just as smitten with Fletcher as he was with her after their dance and doesn't understand why he keeps his distance. But when her brother tasks him to watch over her, she gets her chance to spend more time with him. Will she still feel the same about him when he is no longer out of her reach? I loved watching these two come together. Fletcher trying to keep Agnes safe and she still doing as she wants. Their antics had me laughing out loud! This was a great addition to the Lords of Vice series and I can't wait to see what DeHart has in store for us next!

Agnes Watkins is the most beautiful lady in London, maybe even in England. The big problem is that Agnes' mother is jealous and wants the men who are would be suitors for Agnes. It doesn't matter if her mother is still married to her father. Fletcher, Earl of Wakefield meets Agnes at a ball. Since he is not in direct line to inherit a title and needs the money, he works for the Seven, an elite spy organization. His immediate superior happens to be Agnes' brother who is very protective of her and he threatens Fletcher that it would be bad if he pursues a relationship. He dances with her once a year at the ball where he met her. For three years he has wanted her, but has also spent that time, seducing other woman for their secrets. He is known as London's greatest lover. Someone is leaving disturbing notes for Agnes. Her brother finds out and leaves to check on a lead. He asks/threatens Fletcher to watch over her and to not touch her or he will make sure he will have no job. He has no choice but to agree. Agnes is one of The Ladies of Virtue who train in self defense and help keep crime off the streets. There is so much attraction between that cannot be denied. He proposes and she accepts. Then, Agnes gets kidnapped. Who can the kidnapper be? Will she be freed without harm? This book is very interesting. I love the Ladies of Virtue and the Seven. Both are subplots that add a lot to the story. I am looking forward to the rest of the books in this series. I received this book from Net Galley and Entangled Publishing for a honest review and no compensation otherwise. The opinions expressed are my own.

This is an adorable story. I loved both Fletcher and Agnes. Their interactions with each other are so sweet and interesting. I really enjoyed reading this historical fiction and would recommend it to all romance lovers. Agnes has lived in her mother's shadow all her life. Finally, she gives up on love and romance. She can afford to stay single forever. Her brother supports her decision and thus she is safely off the marriage market. Now she can do what she enjoys to do. That's how she becomes part of a Ladies' group helping people of London. However, things are not as simple as they seem and her life might be in danger. She also finds it very difficult to ignore Lord Fletcher's. She has no idea why but for some reason she enjoys his company and maybe even feel lust towards him. Fletcher likes Agnes but she is off-limits. There is no way he will jeopardize his carrier and her reputation just because he can't keep his hands to himself. That's also why he avoids her. But now that's not an option. He has to protect her and that means staying close to her. Will he be able to protect her without compromising her or maybe he will end up convincing her to marry him? But is that even a possibility for the two of them? It's a well-written story. I find it to be a light-hearted romance which I think everyone can enjoy reading. I definitely did!
