The not so pretty girl gets the man of her dreams but it takes him awhile to see how great she is. I like that when he totally screws up that the author didn't make her wait weeks for him to come to his senses.

In this story, the hero makes a bargain with God that he will marry if God spares his sick mother's life. He picks a woman based on looks alone, does not love her, and plans to fulfill his bargain with God and have very little to do with his wife. Unfortunately, the lady he marries has the right name but the wrong face, so he feels betrayed and cheated when he realizes he married a plain woman and not her beautiful sister. His new wife, a stubborn but good-hearted vicar's daughter, had idolized him for a few years after he'd helped her rescue a stray dog. Upon their marriage, she realizes that her husband is not the warm, thoughtful man she'd lead herself to believe, but she never becomes disillusioned or full of self-pity. I won't add more but to say that this is a beautiful story that is never preachy but does reiterate that life never turns out exactly as planned. I love Regencies, both sweet and racy, but had never read a Regency themed inspirational romance; however, I absolutely loved this story! I also confess it¿s the first Harlequin Love Inspired Historical I've ever read. I was so impressed that I've already purchased a few other Regency themed books in this line.
