Gr 1-3-In this story poem, a child asks the Earth how flowers, trees, and mountains were created. The Earth explains that after seeds took form, the "land blossomed with the Rainbow's light/Reflected in every flower...." Guardians in the form of the Dolphin, Eagle, Butterfly, Turtle, and Bear were installed to watch over Earth's creatures. And then came Woman and Man. At this point, the story becomes a diatribe against humankind, war, and pollution until the child begins to speak of uniting all people to find peace. Colorful, folk-style acrylic illustrations fill the pages, and the accompanying CD expands the poem with music and additional verses, but neither can rescue the didactic text.-Doris Losey, Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library, Tampa, FL Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.
