I purchased this book when it first came out around 6 yrs or so. I have since referred back to it at least 3 times a week. For any Pagan/Wiccan/Shaman/Witch this book is a must have. It covers not only spellwork, but root lore, herbs and how to prepare them, common myths and has an appendix that is one of the absolute best with correspondences that cover just about everything Pagan. It does not cater toward any one specific path, but instead covers a very broad selection from every conceivable religion of the Pagan variety. I have personally added many spells and root working spells to my own Book of Shadows. The binding is great and after 6 yrs of constant almost daily use, it remains in prestine condition. The outward cover is modestly done, and complements both the male and female practioner. I have reccomended this "compendium" probably a thousand times from beginners and novices to life-long followers and even teachers. It is a rich depository of information that cannot be found in one binding anywhere else. In my opinion, this book belongs in the same category as Scott Cunningham, Silver Ravenwolf, Waite and Gardner. Do not pass this up, it will reward you every time you open its pages, from a spell or tincture to help a toothache to scrying to stone magick, meanings and properties. Enrich your library, knowledge and your BoS, and purchase this "compendium arcana". You will NEVER regret it, and after years of use it will be as close to you as a best friend, just as my copy is to me right along side my Book of Shadows.

I bought this book for research purposes. I am writing a fantasy novel, and I thought it would be helpful. It has some good information in it, but the organization is a bit lacking. I would much rather it have been in Dictionary format. There is no real way to look something up. You just have to keep flipping through until you find what you are looking for. Also, the information is a bit limited. I was hoping there would be more spells. I will say that it does actually have spells in it. It is not just an encyclopedia of spells you find in books like Harry Potter. It talks about actual spells that different cultures around the world believe in and have tried to cast. Some of the spells are more potions of sorts, which I think is a completely different area of "magic." If you are looking for a good basic guide to magic spells used by actual people, this book is a goo start.

I do like this smaller version. 5000 Spells is a cherished and worn book on my shelves, but it can be a little daunting to work with at times. I wish I had the space for a library-style plinth to keep it out all the time. This smaller version is a nice second option. The breadth of the spells is still there, sbut in what I think is an easier to use size. If you can, get both--you won't be disappointed by either.

This book is like a shotgun. Each chapter throws a bucketful of spells at every possible situation. Taking spells from most every culture in each catagory there is something for every practicioner. The book is honest, it includes Hexes and antidotes, as well as all the garden variety spells, potions and formulas. This is an excellent book for people who collect diverse spells. The formulary was succinct and all inclusive. All in all very informative and a good read.

I purchased this item because it claimed to be The Element Encyclopidia of 5000 spells, however, after purchased it appears to be the much shorter version, The Element Encyclopedia of 1000 spells. I have both books in my collection so I know the difference. Am more than disappointed. If it were what I paid for, I would've been more than happy.

Ok This is a book for woopy witches. But if you are wiccan this it does have some good ideas, if your willing to flesh them out. Most of the book has basic setup in it. My boyfriend bought it for me as a joke, but I have been able to use one or two things from it. If nothing else it is good for a laugh.
