I was blown away by this book! Hands down, a thoroughly well rounded action thriller.  Paul Kemprecos has done some fine work in collaborations with other big name authors but this proves he's outstanding as a solo writer.  I hope there will be more books in the Matt Hawkins series!

“The Emerald Scepter” by Paul Kemprecos Where myth meets reality a storm brews, where deception meets truth, heroes are born and where greed meets government, the Emerald Scepter exists. From the master of mystery, Paul Kemprecos, an epic thriller is born that has Hollywood written all over it. When a Georgetown University professor who has written the State Department about a mythical jeweled cross goes missing, who does the U.S. call upon to try to find the treasure? A washed up Naval officer with a Psych discharge may not seem like the logical choice, but that’s exactly what they do. Lieutenant Matt Hawkins, a Woods Hole researcher, is ‘requested’ to meet with the brass in Washington. A request he can’t decline. While assembling his team, he is hunted and almost killed by a pair of maniacal twins who are a mercenary death squad. His team will travel to Afghanistan and ally with a warlord in order to search for the mythical cross known as the Emerald Scepter. There they find the missing professor and join forces in a chase across the Afghani deserts to the mountains of Colorado. The search for treasure and truth will end in a den of snakes: Washington D.C. “The Emerald Scepter” is truly an epic adventure with believable heroes, despicable villains with a splash of romance and humor thrown in. I was serious when I said “The Emerald Scepter” has Hollywood written all over it and it is this humble writer’s opinion that it is only matter of time before we see The Emerald Scepter written in lights. I can’t wait to see what Paul has in store for Hawk, Cal, Abby, Cait, and Sutherland. An Epic read from an epic author! Reviewed by J.M. LeDuc, author of “Cursed Days”
