This is the second book in the Game World series, which follows GianLorenzo Cortese as he navigates a future society obsessed with virtual reality.
In The Emperor, the nineteen-year-old boy enters the world of professional gamers. He will be one of six contestants representing six political blocks vying to win the game by being elected the next emperor of Rome. Through an induced dream, he's transported to the year 110 AD, where Trajan rules the ancient empire at the height of its power.
Playing as the gladiator Tiberius, GianLorenzo becomes one with his avatar, losing himself in the lucidity of his dream state-where a body can bleed and a heart can feel both unbearable anguish and intense joy.
As masses worldwide watch the broadcast in enthralled suspense, the tournament takes GianLorenzo into the Coliseum, where he's forced to fight for his life as a gladiator and into Emperor Trajan's inner circle, where he must choose between loyalty and the game.
Blurring the line between the virtual world and reality, The Emperor is riveting to the very end.
