What a beautiful story about the life! This is the story of Lena & Nate and it ripped me to pieces but in such a good way. Their love for each other shown bright this entire book. What a wonderful celebration of family, life and love. No I won't say more to spoil this beautiful story. Definitely add this to your must read list. Thank you for writing Nate & Lena's story.

We share the kind of love that picks you up when you stumble, the kind of love that catches you when you fall, the kind of love that rescues you when you need saving. The real kind of love. Nate is my "in sickness and in health." Nate is my "until death do us part." Nate is the staying kind. Lena and Nate Grant are true soulmates, a team, the yin to each others' yang. When life takes a series of turns that neither could have anticipated, their commitment and love will be the things that leave them able to navigate the landscape of a life that neither could have anticipated. Michelle Leighton has left me breathless, bereft, a sobbing mess, and, finally, uplifted, with THE EMPTY JAR. Although I had an idea of the story that I would be reading, nothing could have prepared me for the flawlessly beautiful book that Michelle has crafted. THE EMPTY JAR is a story of the many faces of love, the love of a spouse, of a friend, of a mother, of a father. Rich with emotion and rife with unexpected turns, I could not put this book down. I do not want to ruin this experience by giving too much of the story away. Suffice to say that this is a book that I give my highest marks too, and one that I will tell everyone to read, because I love it so very much. Michelle has shown us a part of herself that we have not seen in her other books (all of which I LOVE, by the way), an intimacy that comes through in every word of THE EMPTY JAR. 6 stars, and a recommendation that everyone read it. Thank you, Michelle Leighton, for sharing yourself with us, and giving us such a wonderful book. You are most definitely in my jar.

Going into this one I was not sure how much my heart could stand but I knew I would finish it. With the short synopsis, the story could have gone a number of ways. Let me say that it will tear your heart out and you will be gutted and crying like a baby by the end but it will be well worth all the tissues used. I fell in love with Lena and Nate, their love is a love that everyone looks for and only a handful are lucky enough to find. This is an emotional roller coaster read that I highly recommend because it will touch you and even might have happened to you or someone you know. This is a beautiful heart-breaking story that is worth every minute it takes to read it. Please read the the letter from Michelle at the end of the story about her Dad and Mom, it is a precious and loving story too. I feel as other reviewers that this just might be Michelle's best yet because it will change you in some way too. **I received a free copy of the book in exchange for my honest review**

When you are in the middle of a book that is not just hitting too close to home, but smacking your house with a wrecking ball, you have to take a step back and let it swing. BUT the moment you pick it back up you know it is going to be okay to continue on with it. That something beautiful will be waiting at the end to comfort you and tell you it was all worth it. Something monumental is waiting to say it is going to be okay and that life goes on and curses can be broken. That is this book. I will not go into the guts of this story. I won’t ruin any part of it for you. But I am asking you to pick this book up and give it the time it deserves to be read. Let your emotions be pulled forth out of you. Cry. Laugh. Throw a tantrum because life is not fair. But read this story. I am so glad I did. My heart and soul will never be the same again because I had a family member that was going through a very, very similar journey as Lena was. This isn't much of a review, just a few thoughts that flitted through my head as I read this amazing, beautiful story. I wish I could say more but the words are not there to do it justice and portray what I need to say. Simply put, this book needs more stars than the 5 I am able to give.

5 - Beauty and tragedy... Stars. I am quite an emotional reader, a big softy if you will, and sometimes a story, its characters, or just the way something has been written leaves more of a mark than normal. Lena and Nate Grant’s story did that, it left a mark, provoked a reaction, made me think. I can honestly say there is only one other book that has had such an emotional impact on me, and that was Me Before You by Jojo Moyes. I am not in the habit of comparing books, and The Empty Jar is in a completely different stratosphere in relation to the storyline, but the reaction it bought out of me isn’t. We share the kind of love that picks you up when you stumble, the kind of love that catches you when you fall, the kind of love that rescues you when you need saving. The real kind of love. Which to be blunt was a total emotional melt-down, I won’t forget this story, because for all the upset I experienced in reading it, it is also one of the most positive books I have ever read as well. The knowledge that your death is imminent is something that a lot of us are going to struggle to ever understand until we actually go through it. But the knowledge that someone you love is facing the end is something that everyone is going to have some level of experience. The end is still coming. It’s always out there, hovering, like clouds on the horizon. Whether it be a peaceful passing from old age and a life well lived, or from an abhorrent disease that burrows its way in, spreads its roots and refuses to let go, it’s heart-breaking all the same. And the author encapsulated that from both sides, which means you are given the experience from both perspectives, the person still living, while watching the other one dying and vice-versa, and that in itself is why it is such an emotional read. We’ve been together for what feels like a lifetime, but now it’s beginning to seem like the blink of an eye. I think The Empty Jar will touch everyone in some way, some more profoundly than others for certain. But the subject matter of the story is one that you cannot, not feel something for, but there is so much hope and positivity in running through it as well though. "We have today. Now. Let’s make this count. Let’s love enough for the rest of my life…" "No let’s love enough for the rest of mine." Lena and Nate make the most out of every opportunity, every experience, tomorrow is a day where they do more, never letting the grass grow under their feet, yesterday is a memory to be treasured, and catalogued. To be remembered when times are darker, and they do get darker, but you know that from the beginning, and although you think you have prepared yourself somewhat for it, when it comes, it still rips you to shreds anyway. "My heart…" "For yours." Michelle Leighton has put her heart and soul into this book, and although a work of fiction a lot of the story is based on her own experiences, and you can tell, the writing is so vivid and descriptive, and if like me you are a bit of a softy, you are going to be an absolute wreck for most of it's reading. I already had a huge amount of respect for this author, but for telling this story, and putting her heart and soul out there for everyone too see, I don’t really have any words. It’s beyond brave, but it is her best work to date, and

This book is breathtaking, beautiful and wonderful. Even these words pale in comparison to how it felt reading it. I went through a slew of emotions from beginning to end. I knew within just a few pages I was in love with Nate and Lena. I also knew this was going to be heart wrenching. So make sure to get the tissue ready lots of them. Lena and Nate had a love everyone hopes to have. They were soul mates, two peas in a pod, to tell you I even cried when they met. Their connection was palpable and electric. Together for better or worst. M's characters all blended very well and each added to Lena and Nate's story. This is definitely my must read of 2016. The perfect love. Happy Reading!

The best love story ever told. Not just love but hope and happiness in the face of tragedy. A legacy of love in unexpected ways. The book evokes a myriad of emotion but leaves you feeling that something very real and wonderful will stay with you for a very long time. I couldn't put it down and I encourage everyone to read the book

I don't even know how to rate this book, they're aren't enough stars!!! I don't know that I can do this book justice with my words. This is a MUST READ!! I struggled reading this book and had to put it down several times and walk away to regroup so I could dry my eyes and continue to read. It is a very emotional read about SOUL BARING TRUE LOVE, LOSS, FORGIVENESS and HOPE. Michelle laid her heart and soul into this book and shared so much of herself in this book, for me this is her best work yet and trust me I have loved everything she has written so far. All I can say is don't listen to what others have to say about this book just pick it up and start reading yourself and soon you will know what all the buzz is about. But have your Kleenex ready because you are going to need them.

This not a book for the faint at heart! This book is a life journey like no other. It is made up of moments that make the road walked through this life bearable. It is love at its purest, deepest, unending best. You will walk in the shoes of these characters. You will cry, laugh, rejoice, and experience every thought and emotion. If you have lost a loved one to the evil that is cancer, you will relive those dark and torturous times. But most of all this book will bring back to the forefront...LOVE! God's most saving grace in the face of the most unspeakable pain.

This is the most heartbreaking incredible beautiful story I have ever read. Michelle has given the best that she is. The love of a mother for a child and the love of a husband and wife. Soul mate doesn't even come close to what Lena and Nate share. I don't think I stopped the tears until the last word was read. Tears of sadness but also tears of joy. The sacrifice that Lena makes for Grace. The love and support that Lena receives from Nate will have you balling your eyes out. so many tears but worth every one of them. This will be a story I will never forget and one that has touched my heart like nothing I have ever read. I knew it would be amazing like all of Michelle ' s books but this one is different and will grab you from the first word to the last

This poignant and touching romance is not your ordinary love story. It is about the epic love that Nate and Lena, a married couple and soul mates, share. They have a love that is so true and pure that they will do, without thought, whatever it takes to care for the other. Their heartbreaking yet breathtaking journey to live and experience their dreams in the face of mortality also bring unexpected gifts. Their amazing and powerful tale is one of strength, hope, faith and love. I went into this story not knowing what to expect. What I found was a beautiful and emotional tale that expertly demonstrates eternal love.
