The Exception, a Contemporary Romance by Adriana Locke that I could not put down Cane Alexander, a hot, successful, cocky alpha bad boy that is used to living by his own rules, until he meets Jada Stanley, a woman who turns his life upside down and makes him realize he is capable of love and how alone he has been for most of his life. Jada Stanley, a woman who is broken from a past marriage, who is starting her life over in another state close to her family. A woman who vows never to fall for the bad boy again, until she meets Cane. The chemistry is electric and their story is one that everyone should read. I guarantee you will fall in love with both of them. I highly recommend this book. Adriana Locke is a new author who hit the ground running with her first novel and is sure to be a very successful author. I cannot wait for her next book.

This was the first book that I have read by Adriana Locke and I'm still wondering why it took me so long to read one of her books?! By the end of chapter two, I was already hooked on the story and invested in the lives of Jada and Cane. I found myself relating to much of Jada's story and could see parts of my husband's past in Cane. Watching them overcome their "rules" was fantastic. I felt so many emotions while reading this book. I was apprehensive for Jada and I didn't want to watch her get hurt again. I practically swooned when Cane sent her the orange flowers, although I wanted very badly to shake some sense into him to help him overcome his "fears." I wanted to cry alongside Jada when Cane left with Lesley and I was chewing my fingernails when Jada agreed to meet Simon for dinner. I could hardly put this book down to eat or sleep. The story and writing were absolutely brilliant. I adored this book and cannot wait to read everything else that Locke has to offer.

Middle of the road for me. I had such high hopes due to all of the hype. I really loved Cane so very much! He had a bit of uniqueness to him that I admired, but I could never quite get an image of him in my mind. He worked hard to get where he is, had been burned badly by a manipulative woman and doesn't want to open himself up for the chance that it could happen again. He's a man's man and has no problems showing his dominance as a whole. (You know, he would make a great DOM, but that's another genre.) While I appreciate Jada's character, I did not love her, and at times found it difficult to even like her. Recently divorced from Decker she moved in with her sister in Arizona. Her marriage was no picnic - filled with verbal abuse and very little affection. She doesn't want another "bad boy", and Cane is the first man she meets. When drama started to unfold and Decker called Jada, I expected him to be a bigger part of the story. He obviously wanted Jada back in the marital home. When the culprit turned out to be someone else entirely, I just didn't understand it. He was a bit of a slime ball and sleeze bag, but not nearly intelligent or sophisticated enough to pull off some of the antics. I found myself bored more often than not during the second half of this book. What I loved about this book? Kari (Jada's sister) and Max (Kari's man) - Max is a dream come true and is what every BFF and BBF are made of. These two characters are proof that the capacity for truly lovable characters exist. Many people loved it, and there are several DNF's citing "same book, different cover". You be the judge. It's Adriana's debut, so things can get better.

I won this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. I'm not sure if I'd give this a solid 4 stars or if I'd go more 3.5. I did like the book, but there were a few things that got me a little frustrated. The two main characters were well written. Jada is a newly divorced woman who is trying to get past the wounds from her failed marriage. A marriage that had a lot of emotional & verbal abuse. She wants to leave the life of walking on egg shells behind, but is morning the loss of what she thought was supposed to be her HEA. I liked how Adriana wrote her as someone who is trying to find her strength but also how she backslides some. It's true to life everyone has there strengths & weaknesses. Than of course there's Cane total alpha playboy just out for a good time. Likes to hit it & quit it. They get introduced through Jada's sister Kari & Cane's best friend Max who happens to be dating Kari. I loved these 2 side characters & am so happy that they are getting there own book. Max almost stole the show a few times ¿¿. Anyways back to Jada & Cane. Cane being the cocky guy he is automatically sets his sights on Jada & thinks he can get her to hook up than just move on. But things don't go his way because Jada isn't about one night stands & she's trying to change things she sees as patterns in her life. As Cane pursues her than pulls away once he starts to get to know her & realizes that she's not the hit it & quit it type & he knows that he's not the relationship type. Here's where we start to see the growth in his character as he struggles with what he wants & trying to do the right thing. Of course while he's having these struggles poor Jada is getting whiplash from his hot & cold behavior. I enjoyed all this part of the story & than the evolution of them falling in love. Adriana did a good job interweaving their backstories that it felt like we were getting to know them at the same time they were getting to know each other. And it wasn't over detailed to detract from Cane & Jada. What started to throw me was the amount of conflict & drama that was thrown in their path to sabotage their relationship. I at first liked the intrigue that was involved with the Simon Powers issue but than it got a little much. Than you throw in exes showing up on both sides & of course the lack of communication between the 2 MCs & secrets & it started to drag. I think the one nemesis would've been just fine. But than again that's just me. The overall writing, growth of all the characters & flow of the story was good. I look forward to seeing where Adriana takes Max & Kari. I am glad that I got a chance to read this book & get introduced to these characters. I'd say this is a fairly strong start to a debut author. So I guess I'm gonna restart &
