The ancient Book of Thoth has been hiding from humankind for thousands of years. Not even the Investigators of the Historia Society have been able to find any hint of it. So, when thirteen-year-old Arthur Grey gets to Egypt and finds a collection of lucky charms, he feels luck is in his favor for being the one to discover the mysterious Book. That is, until the sly Rheneas Berne shows up again. Now, instead of discovering anything even about how to control his finicky Guardian powers Arthur finds himself surrounded by enemies and threatened no matter where he turns.

Can Arthur s new charm bring him enough luck to find the Book of Thoth? And is it worth it if he loses his friends and gets kicked out of the Society in the process, or worse . . . brings destruction down on the entire realm of Guardians?

About the Author

V.K. Finnish grew up with a zoo's worth of pets and a library of books. As an adult, she moved around a lot: from the big city and its never-sleeping bustle, to the suburbs of quiet flocks of houses, then through the golden cornfields of the midwest. From there, she was rounded up to the open spaces and cowboy-celebrating lands of Texas, and then made a hike to the purple mountain peaks of Colorado.

The Discoveries of Arthur Grey series was begun in a cramped apartment between moves, with unopened moving boxes used for a table. The first book, The Society's Traitor, made it to publication in June 2012 with Panama Hat Publishing. The second book, The Minotaur Riddle, was released the following year.

"The world is full of enough depressing muck and slime to drag any one of us down and turn us into swamp monsters. When I was a kid, I read books that allowed me to escape that, to find something new, to go on adventures, to face dangers that could be defeated by a little hero. And that's what I write today."

Finnish is the author of The Discoveries of Arthur Grey books, a series that twists together all her favorite genres into one epic adventure. If you can't find her actually writing, she's probably busy plotting new adventures (for family or characters), hiking, playing LEGO video games, wandering around on a travel, or snuggling with one of her three cats over a good middle-grade book.
