After seeing Gallareal killed, and banishing the Paragon Dracus from the Heart Tree's side of the world, Vanx from the little Zythian village called, Malic, and his canine familiar, Sir Poopsalot, find themselves alone in a strange part of Harthgar. The rough, seemingly uninhabited land proves unlivable, even for one as skilled as our half-Zythian hero. But all Vanx wants to do is get he and his dog, back to Saint Elm's Deep, where he can grieve over the loss of the first woman he'd ever really let into his heart.
Will Vanx and Poops survive long enough to find a way? Or will the blue-glowing, dragon torturing, Paragon shape shifter want revenge? After all, Vanx is on its turf now, and he may be in for more than he can handle.
Vanx just wants to go home, but he may end up having to stick around until he finishes what's been started.

In this seventh installment of the Legend of Vanx Malic series we find more adventures. After the horrifying death of Vanx's first love Gallareal is killed by the evil Paragon Dracus Vanx finds himself too busy to grieve properly for her. I thought the author clever in the naming of Vanx's animal familiar the dog, Sir Poopselot. It made me smile. Will Vanx and Sir Poopset conquer the blue-glowing dragon wrecking havoc and find their way home? I find it would behoove a person to read the whole series in order. The tale is best read that way as there are too many details to follow to enable a person to just pick up a random book in the series. While this book is well done I do believe I enjoyed the Wardstone Trilogy better. If there are too many books in a series I lose my attention. I do encourage you to read the series.
M. R. Mathias is an author who knows how to get readers with his magic spell and he has done it again with The Far Side of Creation, Boo 7 in The Legend of Vanx Malic series. For those who have read his earlier works in the series, there is no doubt that he has a unique signature for plot and character development. Readers are introduced to Vanx and his companion facing huge challenges in an unfamiliar terrain. Far away from Saint Elms Deep, can they triumph over the challenges and make their way home safely? The reader is thrust into a world of magic and dragons and shapeshifters. I love the way the author creates complex issues, the intricacy of the plot and the tight holes in which the characters find themselves. The plot is fast and the twists are many. One never knows what to expect and the sense of impending danger only grows as one reads from one powerful scene to another. There is a lot of action to keep the reader's heart beating fast. There are unpleasant surprises, but the reader is keen to follow what happens to the heroes. This one was electrifying, breezy, and utterly satisfying.
The Far Side of Creation is one of my favorites so far in this series. It was nonstop action that made it hard to put down! From love to heartbreak to despair, the emotions of the characters are so real and well put to paper that it felt like I could have been watching a movie. This series would make some awesome movies if done right! The ending is so sad but so happy, I couldn't wait-I already jumped into the next book to see what would happen next. I've said this before, but Mathias is a phenomenal writer and quickly becoming a personal favorite for me. I just discovered him a few months ago and have already read most of his books. Can't wait to see where this story goes and to read more from Mathias!
