The Fate of Ten (Lorien Legacies Series #6) by Pittacus Lore

The sixth and penultimate book in the #1 New York Times bestselling I Am Number Four series! For years the Garde have fought the Mogadorians in secret, but now the invasion has begun.

John is on the front lines in New York City. The odds may be stacked against him, but his best friend, Sam, has inexplicably developed a Legacy despite being human—and he isn’t the only one. As the pair tracks down Five and Nine amidst the chaos, they encounter another teen with powers. Whether she is a friend or a foe, however, remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, Six, Marina, and Adam are trapped in Mexico. They fought their way into the Sanctuary and were able to awaken the force hidden within, but they don’t have any way to reach the others…and the Mogs are coming for them in full force.

The Garde are stretched thin. Their only shot at saving the world is to eliminate the Mogadorian leader once and for all—but his fate is now irrevocably tied with Ella’s. The Garde can’t destroy one without the other.  And if they can’t find another way to stop the Mogs, humanity will suffer the same fate as the Loric: annihilation.

This epic, action-packed science fiction series is perfect for fans of the Fifth Wave series by Rick Yancey, the Maze Runner series by James Dashner, and Orson Scott Card’s Ender’s Game.

The Fate of Ten is the long awaited 6th book in the Lorien Legacies/I Am Number Four Series. After much anticipation, I was finally able to download the digital version to my Nook on August 31st at 11pm, the night the book was first released. The author continues the story right where the Revenge of Seven ended; at the point where John Smith’s best friend, Sam, realizes he has legacies (special powers). In this book, the Lorien’s discover the truth behind Setrákus Ra’s troubled past and uncover more information about their founder, Pittacus Lore. (Note the author’s clever insertion of himself, or at least his namesake, as the leader of the Loriens within the story). John discovers that the Entity at the Sanctuary is responsible for the legacies that Sam suddenly developed. Once he makes this realization, with Ella’s assistance, he gathers all of the affected people in a telekinetic dream to ask them for their support in defeating the Mogs. With the cooperation of these people, the impossible feat of defeating the Mogadorians finally seems plausible. In the penultimate showdown at the grand finale of the book, there is an awe-inspiring battle with a conclusion that is sure to bring readers to tears. I particularly enjoyed reading about the reunion of the main characters, since they were separated for the mission of defeating Setrákus Ra throughout the book. I was surprised that the author, Pittacus Lore, did not reunite the teen warriors sooner because the story is much more compelling when the diverse group of heroes all work together, as was the case in the earlier books in the series. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading action adventure, mystery, suspense, and a bit of romance with teen characters set in a dystopian society.
