A job to die for. Women to kill for. Dangerous times call for dangerous men like the Hudson Kings—and making it out alive is only half the fun.
Nick Dawes just had to go and prove something to himself. The brilliant moneyman of the Hudson Kings is in deeeep trouble after losing $20 million during a “freelance” heist, and now a Russian crime boss wants the money and Nick’s head. Nick needs to make himself scarce—and find someone to babysit his fish. Someone like lush, gorgeous Jane MacGregor, who might just be the death of him…
After being swindled by her jerk of an ex, Jane can’t say no to house-sitting a luxurious Fifth Avenue penthouse. The only downfall—aside from Nick’s tendency to show up covered in bruises and blood—is an increasingly strong attraction to her superhot and expensively suited-up new boss. Never make the same mistake twice.
But when Nick’s dangerous profession crashes in on Jane’s quiet little world, all hell breaks loose. And Jane is about to find out just what kind of man she’s falling for.

The Financier is Book Two of Liz Maverick's Hudson Kings series. This is the first book I have read by this author and it certainly will not be the last. I actually plan to go back and read Book One for more insight into the Hudson Kings. Even though I don't think it's necessary to have read Book One, I did struggle just slightly with the beginning trying to wrap my head around who was who and the entire plot in general. It starts out with Nick right smack dab in the middle of a heist that ends up going south. After about a quarter of the way through, things started to click and I was able to sit back and enjoy the ride. This story had a very engaging plot and great character development. The connection between Jane and Nick was there right from the start but burned at a pretty slow pace until I thought they were going to combust. There were even some laugh out loud moments involving Nick's fish and frog. My husband is a fish guy so I could certainly relate. An ARC copy of the book was received via NetGalley.
Complex, intricate, detailed and delightful – this was a book that I could not put down. The Hudson Kings are an independent group of stunning studly extremely competent mercenaries that work together but also take freelance jobs from time to time. On one such job Nick Dawes, money mover extraordinaire, manages to “lose” 20 million dollars – and his life is then on the line. Wanting someone to apartment sit and care for his fish he hires Jane MacGregor, a friend of some women linked to the Hudson Kings, until he feels it is safe to come out of hiding again. Nick is a handsome, wealthy, multifaceted man that is such a breath of fresh air as a book boyfriend. I think he might be one of the most unusual and endearing men I have met in a book recently. And then there is Jane and she is so much more than many female leads – she too is unusual and such a great match for Nick. She is unflappable, dedicated, humorous, lusty and just perfect in so many ways. The two together are great. The story is wonderful. The team and other side characters are so interesting that I can’t wait for the next book in the series – no matter WHO it is about! This is one series that is a winner, a keeper and a delight to the soul. Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake Romance for the ARC – This is my honest review.
Fantastic book! It has characters that are amazing, a passionate romance, and enough suspense and action to thrill every reader. This story pulled me in immediately and I couldn't put it down until the last page. Nick Dawes is the money man for the Hudson Kings. A mercenary group working out of NYC. Unfortunately for Nick a side job goes terribly wrong leaving $20 million dollars missing and a very angry Russian crime boss wanting his money back. NOW! Nick needs to lay low until he can figure out what happened. That's when he meets Jane. He hires her to care for his fish and house sit his apartment. When his trouble turns up and lands in Jane's lap Nick knows he can't stay away any longer. That's when things really get wild! Definitely a book I recommend to everyone.
