About the Author

Monyue Bright has over twenty years of experience in the field of education with a master’s degree in special education. She started as a substitute teacher in San Antonio, Texas, and then a paraprofessional within the Springfield Public Schools of Massachusetts. Her interest for children with special needs led her to become a special education teacher. She currently works in the Ponca City Public Schools of Oklahoma.
Her philosophy in education is that all students, regardless of their physical and mental challenges, can compete and learn to their fullest ability if provided the right opportunity and environment suitable to their learning needs. With this philosophy, she devoted her educational career to teaching children with some of the most challenging learning needs.
First Day of School was originally written in response to a school assignment in a literary master’s degree course in special education. Her passion to promote the education of all students especially those with special needs led her to revise and publish it as a book. She believes that most students, particularly those with special needs, face the challenge of getting started on the first day of school. Once the first day of school is accomplished successfully, those students gain impetus and motivation to press on and hold through for all other days, weeks, and months of the school year. It is a book that motivates the students to start well so that they will finish well.
Monyue Bright is from Liberia, West Africa. She and her husband of thirty years, Rev. Dee Wellington Bright Sr.; and their daughter, Tinika, live in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Their two other children of adult ages, Dee W. Bright Jr., and Vonti O. Bright, live in Texas.
