With vivid art respectful of the subject matter, and understandable text for 4-7 year olds, she doesn't try to explain the theology around the Resurrection of Jesus, but summarizes the Biblical story. The text is evidence of the faith with which the Bible story is told, leaving the mystery intact. This grandmother strongly recommends reading it with the child so that questions may be answered appropriately with the faith of a believer, misconceptions set right, and some of the metaphorical imagery explored. With that said,I would add to the page on the cleansing of the temple, animals "which were used as offerings", and to the time teaching the chief priest and elders, that "some tried to trick him" recognizing that some also listened and may have been moved to faith. Any critcism of the more contemporary art work would certainly come only from those who can only accept the more familiar European religious art. This treatment of a celebration of faith (seen as a celebration of nature in our secular society) will surely bring a deeper meaning to the child's world.

This book was a gift to my two grandchildren who are ages 6 and 8. I thought the language and descriptions were appropriate for both of them. Also, their native language is Swedish, and although they have both been fluent in English from an early age, I do monitor books for vocabulary that will be easily understood by them both, and readable by the older one.
