Very good book. A unique war experience with both North African and Pacific theatre experiences. The book was well written with just enough background technical detail to bring the reader into the experience. Highly recommended.

Easily the best--and historically relevant--autobiographical account to come from a World War II navy ace. McWhorter's matter-of-fact style and narrative clarity are simultaneously compelling and compassionate. This is a book about real combat told with real feeling and great modesty. An easy, can't-put-down read that was a genuine surprise and pleasure to read. "The First Hellcat Ace" is an enthusiastically recommended book for anyone interested in the Pacific War.
