Overview

The First One (The One Trilogy, #2) by Tawdra Kandle

Ali and Flynn were high school sweethearts. Eager to see the world and leave behind their small Georgia hometown, they’d planned for an exciting new life together after they finished school.

But on graduation day, only one of them hit the road.

Eight years down that road, an unexpected loss brings Flynn home again. He’s a big-shot photo journalist, and he’s made most of his plans reality. But he’s done it alone. Is it too late for his biggest dream to come true?

Ali’s spent those years working hard, raising a daughter and helping her brother keep their family farm alive. Thinking about Flynn and what might have been is a pain she tries to avoid. . .even when it’s impossible to forget.

Flynn’s return brings back feelings Ali thought were long dead and hopes she’d abandoned. Finding their way back to each other will change them forever, opening old wounds and stirring up memories.

Can the first love be the one that lasts forever?

I sigh and stand up. Enough of that. I can't continue moping around. I have to find something to do. But what? I look around. Same old box. Same old food. Same old teddy bear. Nothing entertaining. Maybe if I were to go outside on a walk? What then? Would anyone steal what little I have? I shake my head. I have nothing anymore. Determined, I stand up and head out. The streets are busy for a Wednesday.
Or is it Tuesday?
I don't have a way to keep track of the date. Cars are skidding along as always. I hear the same noises as I always have.
Honking.
Yelling.
A liyyle boy crying? The sound is coming from across the street. I quickly cross it and turn down an alleyway. There, sitting all alone, is an eight-year-old boy.
"Hey!" I yell, "Are you alright?" Wiping his tears, he stands back up and says:
"No! Im not! Leave me alone!" He looks so lost. The way I did when I first lost my parents.
"Are you alone?"
"What does it look like?!"
"Do you need any help?"
"No! Go away!" So I do. I'm surprisingly intrigued in his story. I hope to find out more later. But for now I head back to my box.
AUTHORS NOTE: Hey everyone, its me: NinjaNerdNext part on next res as always..

I think I knew from reading The Last One that I would love The First One. Ali is such a strong character that you can't help but love her. While you want to completely hate Flynn for taking off and leaving like he did, you can't help but fall in love and swoon at the man he has become. This story switches back and forth between present and past as we learn more of Ali & Flynn's story and what lead to the current state of disaster. I sometimes don't like this style of writing, but Tawdra managed to make it seamless and a wonderful read. It's a story of love, loss, secrets and lies. Naturally we get our HEA which is what makes the story all worthwhile. I found myself arguing both sides of the story and shaking my head at times. I cried more than a few tears with this one - have your tissues handy! As always, I loved getting the glimpse into Meghan & Sam's lives again and making guesses at who the next installment will be about! ( I know who it is ... do you? ) If you are looking for a well written romance, look no further than one of Tawdra's stories! I highly recommend this series. Although this could be read and enjoyed as a stand alone, I recommend reading The Last One first :) *I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review. *

I absolutely LOVED this book! I think we’ve all suffered the ending of a relationship and found ourselves wondering what it would be like if we were given a second chance. I would like to think that if I was given a second chance it would play out something like Ali and Flynn’s story. They were both so easy to connect with and Kandle did an amazing job of expressing their thoughts and concerns in a way that was easy to relate to. I feel in love with Ali’s character when I was reading The Last One so I was super excited to find out that her story would be the base of the second book in the series. In The Last One she came across as a strong, independent women and this book only confirmed those qualities in her. However, it also showed us her venerable side. The side of her that was still dealing with the hurt she’d been through. Even though she’s been hurt before she found it in her to trust again and it paid off in a big way. Though a part of me wanted to dislike Flynn for taking off when they were younger I couldn’t help but fall in love with his character. He could have left again after he found out the truth but he instantly wanted to play a role in his daughter’s life. I think their relationship reminds us that we can overcome anything when we love each other enough. Something, I think people easily forget.

The First One by Tawdra Kandle 5 stars Flynn is a good honorable man, with a huge heart, a strong love for his family, and a heart still broken by his first love and high school sweetheart. Ali is a good, honest, loving woman, a great mom, and has sacrificed a lot to keep her family together and happy. Ali also has a kept a huge secret from Flynn ever since graduation, when her heart was broken, and she had to pick up the pieces to raise her artistic, happy daughter. When Flynn and Ali meet again it is obvious that despite all the hurt there is still a spark between them. The journey they take to heal and co-parent is full of kindness, compassion and eventually a passion they just can’t deny. I really loved their love story, the evolution their relationship took, and how they took a healthy path to their future with honesty being a vital part of the process. Once again Tawdra’s writing wrapped me into this sweet southern world and I couldn’t put this book down until I finished. I have no doubts my heart will get wrapped up again when the final book The Only One is released.

Tawdra Kandle knows how to weave a story that is both steamy and heartfelt. I cannot even tell you how many times I was brought to tears while I read The First One. I've been waiting for Ali's story ever since I finished reading The Last One, and I was not disappointed. Ali and Flynn's story shifts between their present and their past. Each memory seems to open up more about their relationship and how it fell apart. Each memory seems to help them build something new. I loved their back and forth as a couple. I loved Ali's daughter. She has a lot of spirit and the moments with all three of them are amazing and perfect. I loved getting to read more about Sam and Meghan from The Last One. The other secondary characters were fun and added a lot to the story. The First One is such a sweet second chance story. Their are steamy parts, but the don't overshadow the love story that is unfolding. This is a perfect read for anyone who enjoys a great romance. Grab The Last One first, and get caught up on how this trilogy begins. Now I can't wait for the next book! Please write quickly Tawdra!! I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.
