When this was touted as a Beauty and the Beast story, I was right on board. The twist in this case is that Raffaele Petri, former top male model and successful businessman, is the beauty and scarred Lily Nolan is the reclusive "beast". Lily was scarred as a teenager and after years of being sheltered by her family and stared at by strangers, she has settled into life as a reclusive on-line research expert. She is good at what she does and after working for Petri's company, her expertise draws his attention when he has a special project. Years ago, when Raffaele was twelve, he lost his sister when she attended a party on a yacht. It took twenty years to find out who was responsible. Now he has planned his revenge and he needed Lily's skills to bring it to fruition. This is good news for Lily, who needs the Petri business to grow her fledgling company. Only problem is that he wants her on site in his New York office, working face to face with him and his team. The sparks fly between Raffaele and Lily even that first tumultuous phone call when he turns her carefully planned world on it's head. The relationship they build as colleagues is a slow burn with both Raffaele and Lily having good reasons to hold back. I really liked the way these two brought out different aspects of character when they interacted and challenged each other. Raffaele's back story was an intriguing one and reminded me a little of one of Maisey Yates heroes. He was my kind of hero, in control of his libido until Lily turns up. Lily is my favourite kind of heroine *wink wink, nudge nudge, say no more* and the reasons were believable for both characters. This was a lovely story about two very engaging people with troubled pasts. The ending was very satisfactory. I couldn't quite give it five stars as I wasn't all that keen on the business side of things which took a lot of the story and it didn't make me cry which is my criteria to push a story into five stars. I highly recommend this if you are after that classic Presents flavour. Disclaimer. I did receive a signed copy of this book from the author but have also purchased an ebook for myself.
