Overview

The Flight of the Silvers by Daniel Price

The first book in the genre-bending Silvers series—an io9 "can't miss" science fiction pick—about six extraordinary people whose fates become intertwined on an earth far different from our own. THE SONG OF THE ORPHANS: The Silvers--Book Two comes out July 2017.

“Highly recommended for fans of apocalyptic and dystopian fiction.”—Library Journal (starred review)

“An absorbing adventure with a fresh take on both the parallel-universe and the paranormal subgenres.”—Kirkus (starred review)

Without warning, the world comes to an end. The sky looms frigid white. The electric grid falters. Airplanes everywhere crash to the ground.

Within moments, the sky comes down in a crushing sheet of light, and everything and everyone are gone—except for Hannah and Amanda Given. Saved from destruction by three fearsome and powerful beings, the Given sisters suddenly find themselves elsewhere: a strange new Earth where restaurants move through the air like flying saucers and the fabric of time is manipulated by common household appliances.

Soon Hannah and Amanda are joined by four other survivors from their world—a mordant cartoonist, a shy teenage girl, a brilliant young Australian, and a troubled ex-prodigy. Hunted by enemies they never knew they had, and afflicted with temporal abilities they never wanted, the sisters and their companions begin a cross-country journey to find the one man who can save them—before time runs out.

I didn't expect much when I bought this, certainly not to be so absorbed. It reminded me a little bit of orphans of chaos and was very well done. For any true sci fi enthusiast this is a must read.

Imaginative, original and beautifully written. The characters grow and change (and also develop wildly entertaining super powers). Time is elastic. This isn't another planet, just a parallel universe with similarities to earth as we know it -- and yet tweaked and twisted. It's hard to find an adventure story with complicated and very human characters you care deeply about. This book has both.

BEST SCI FI BOOK OUT THERE! Do yourself a favor and read it now! I never leave reviews, but this book was so incredible, complex, mystifying, and kick ass that I had to share my thoughts with everyone and hopefully encourage more people to try it out. Truly one of my favorite books.

Once started, I couldn't put this book down. The characters and the plotline were engaging. Can't wait for the next book in the series

Interesting but not very sophisticated. Rather than a serious disscussion about the psychology behind bad desicions, the author is quick to use words like "stupid" and "foolish" to describe people that fall for some of the scams out there. Interesting topic. Missed opportunity to do it well.

More sophisticated writing than most YA dystopia reads. Creative plot held my interest for all 555+ pages. Hope the quality of the sequel is as high.
