This book should be on every shelf in America! Vani is one of the few authors that actually challenges companies to take harmful toxins and chemicals out of our foods to improve our lives and she really opens your eyes to things you didn't even know you were eating! If you care about knowing the truth about the food you consume daily, including The Sickening 15 - Common harmful ingredients hidden in our food supply, then buy this book! Knowing more about that we should avoid makes this book worth having. I’d also recommend that you go ahead and buy The Hungry Chick Dieting Solution right now, if you are really serious about eating healthier and losing weight. Not only did The Hungry Chick Dieting Solution teach me how to eat better, learn how much water that I should be drinking (eight glasses was not enough) but it helped me lose eight pounds in nasty water weight in my first week with everything that I have learned. I am still losing weight and I have never felt better.

The FOODBABE WAY is the book I have been waiting for!  I am a woman who has always been determined to eat healthy. I have spent many years learning to cook and have sought out healthy ingredients that appeal not only to my appetite, and senses, but also to my moral standard.  As a mother of four children I have found myself feeling overwhelmed with my choices; and yet, lack of choice of modern living and grocery shopping to cook an average meal for my family. I feel bombarded by hype, dishonesty, and toxic food! The FOODBABE WAY is great because the author Vani Hari has done the hard work of investigating the ingredients of our food! The FOODBABE WAY offers simple daily routines that can help people like myself bring our bodies back to health. She offers information so we can be informed of our choices. She empowers us consumers to hold corporations accountable and she offers healthy recipes and shopping lists. The FOODBABE WAY is the book of this century and is one way we, the people, can begin to feel united; through the simple act of caring for our own bodies. By caring for ourselves we can begin to care for one another, and our planet.

From her new book: page 151 Vani Hari shares with her readers. "Why Do We Buy Fast Food? To move toward a healthier diet, we need to consider why we buy fast food. And one of the main reasons we buy fast food is because it's cheap! Unfortunately, it's cheap because it's not real food. And if you eat cheap, your health will gravely suffer. You are what you eat, so don't be fast, easy, and cheap. My Dad has always liked fast food because it's cheap, and that's why he fed us at fast-food restaurants when we were kids. He just doesn't believe in spending a lot of money on food. Growing up in India, he was brought up to believe that food's sole purpose was to keep you alive, and you never wasted food. Buying food cheap was the only way to get it. After moving to the United States, he subsisted mostly on fast food because it was a good buy. Sadly, this reasoning meant that my dad never paid attention to the nutritional value of good food. Over time, he developed type 2 diabetes. Right before I started my blog, he got very ill and had to be rushed to the hospital. He spent days in the hospital with doctors and nurses poking and prodding him, trying to figure out what was wrong. He didn't feel well and he couldn't concentrate. A couple of months later, he had a prostate specific antigen (PSA) test. His PSA was high, and the doctors confirmed that he had prostate cancer. It was stressful and saddening news, particularly because my mother-in-law had died just a year earlier from ovarian cancer. It was an overwhelming time for my family and me. I adore my dad, and I don't know what I'd do without him. Fortunately, the disease is in it's earliest stage. My dad found a doctor in Charlotte who advises "active surveillance": watching the situation, repeating the PSA test every three months, and following up with the doctor. My dad has also been advised to avoid red meat and dairy - two contributors to prostate cancer in men. I'm afraid that a lifetime of eating fast food has severely and irrevocably hurt my dad's health. It infuriates me that our food system, pushing cheap, additive-filled food, is so full of poison. I do not want to be part of this system, and nor should you. Give up fast food for the rest of your life - if you value that life."

In this book, Vani Hari gives us a step-by-step guide that allows the reader to create their own best life. For each of the 21 days Ms. Hari describes one new habit to start, including plenty of resources to make this doable. Within these chapters are information on what to drink (and what not to), detoxing from added sugar and cooking at home. There is also flexibility and tips for traveling and dining out. I am particularly pleased to see the emphasis on the quality of food consumed rather than simply the list of what to eat and what to avoid found in many “diet” books. The Food Babe Way is definitely more about creating a healthy, sustainable lifestyle rather than just losing a few extra pounds. All of this can be found in Part II and Part III of the book. The first 78 pages are dedicated to Food Babe history and an explanation of what chemicals are being added to our food supply. As you may know, Vani Hari is a food activist. Like many activists, she is openly critical of her opposition, in this case the industrialized food industry. I share her frustration with these companies and the government that allows them to add known toxins to our food. However, I am concerned that her “Fox News” style of writing will have many people putting this book down before they get to the good part. Here is an example: As you scroll down the aisles of the grocery store, start thinking about the shelves of boxed, canned, jarred, and packaged foods as caskets holding dead food. It’s all embalmed with preservatives that will make you feel dead, too. I think there could be better ways of getting her point across than with comments such as these. Then again, I may be wrong as her inflammatory style has led to changes such as the removal of artificial dyes in SOME Kraft Mac n’ Cheese products and other positive changes. Perhaps the only way to get national change is by being loud and in the face of these companies. Vani Hari makes no pretense about being any other way and that comes through in her writing. I have to admire the honesty in this. In the end, I would recommend this book for those just beginning their health food journey. Whether or not you follow all of 21 recommendations (I don’t), you will undoubtedly learn how to read a label and where to look for good, healthy food. There are also 40 pages for recipes to try. If they are all as good as her Melt In Your Mouth Kale Salad, you will enjoy learning to eat healthy. If you are not knew to avoiding processed foods you will find some great reminders, travel tips and fantastic recommended reading and resource list at the end of the book.

Excellent guide to help one decipher what is really in our food. I considered myself pretty savvy and health conscious; but I will be doing a thorough kitchen clean out immediately. This book offered some excellent tips for normal people who want to eat wisely (and do not have a staff of 35) and actually leave the house (even travel-- gasp!). Those who dissed the book saying that Ms Hari did not use verifiable research, apparently did not read the appendix. It's all there in APA format. Thank you Food Babe for your labor of love in doing tremendous research and breaking things down in easy to understand language that is easy to remember & refer back to and offering positive solutions that are achievable no matter where a person lives or shops. Thank you Food Babe. You just made my 2015 Christmas shopping easier-- EVERYONE Needs This Book!!!

A critical reviewer talked about "general fear-mongering of almost every available food". Sadly there is hardly anything on supermarket shelves that is not full of preservatives, food colorings and preservatives. This is not the author's fault. Anybody who is eating the standard American diet and is healthy and strong  can be happy and thankful for that. Most people are not that lucky. They suffer from allergies, diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure name it. This book can help getting to the root cause that  is often found in what we eat. We need advocates like Vani. This book is not about scaring people it is about  people getting healthy again which should be in the interest of the whole nation.

This book is ridiculous. Don't waste your money. There's no science behind the crazy claims and opinion presented. Really, just don't bother. You won't learn a thing because no facts hide within.
Anonymous More than 1 year ago
Vani Hari's lack of science literacy is very obvious with the loose ways she uses terms. Only a few of her tips are helpful; most are misleading and not backed by any scientific evidence. There is also a large number of contradictions between her statements about her past through out the chapter. I would not suggest this book to any friends or family. There are better resources available that don't make sensationalized claims to grab a reader's attention. Vani Hari is good at marketing, but that is really all she has going for her.

If you want to improve your diet and live a healthy lifestyle you should consult a nutritionalist or doctor. This author is neither of those and this fear-mongering waste of trees is based on bad science and scare tactics to make you part with your money in exchange for a paranoid lifestyle and potentially dangerous diet. If you wish to end up with an eating disorder then please carry on, give this idiot your money.

A complete fraud worthy of jail time.

This is a poorly written excuse for a book. She doesn't use scientific studies with her comments. She is just spouting off information from other sources. Do not waste your money, as she is only looking to make money. I am very pro-organic, but this book is awful!

This book is full of great information.  Some you may already know, some may be common sense, some may be something that is new to you.  It may be difficult to follow all 21 steps, mainly because I don't have access to all the foods needed where I live.  But, I'm glad I bought and read the book.  If you are trying to live a healthier lifestyle, I recommend reading it.

We highly recommend this book by the #foodbabe! She is fighting the food and beverage industry for all of us, and exposing all of the toxic ingredients in beer and wine, Subway, Starbucks, kid's cereals, milk and more. She is trying to protect our children and ourselves from harmful ingredients that are banned in most countries like England and Italy yet, are still legal here in the US. #foodbabearmy We at BATCH organics thank Vani for caring about us and our children! #BATCH #NewYork

I could not put this book down. I have already made improvements in my meals and life. In fact, I started eating healthier food immediately and in just a few days I lost 2 pounds and feel a lot better. Keep up the good work Vani Hari. I am recommending that everyone read and use this book!

The information seemed a little far fetched, especially since my weight remained the same after taking the tips from this book. I'd say read this with a grain of salt.

I did not know the extent of the lies the food industry and the FDA has stooped to by putting so many toxins in our food. We are slowly dying and need to make some changes if we want to live a healthy, more vibrant life. Not to just exist going around in a fog because of the poisons that are in our food. There is a better way for us and our families to live. By educating and arming ourselves with the information in Vani's book, we can gain control of our lives by make informed decisions about our food choices. I highly recommend this book if you are ready and willing to say no to toxic foods and all the other junk that we are subjected to everyday.

I loved this book so much. For many years, I knew in my gut that the food I was eating was disastrous to my health and was slowly killing  me, but I didn't want to believe it. Now that I have read Vani Hari's book, I have all the facts in black and white. She explains, in detail, how easy it is to find all these deadly chemicals in my food and how dangerous they really are for you. Vani not only exposes the lies that  the FDA and food companies have kept from us for all these years, but she also teaches you how to live "The Food Babe Way."  This book     is the perfect tool for living a better and healthy life. Thank you, Vani, for saving lives!!!! Without you, these companies would have continued to slowly poison me and my family!
