Overview

Welcome to the Future Widows' Club--a secret society of women who've been treated like garbage by their horrible husbands and would rather wait for widowhood than endure a divorce. But sometimes waiting can be murder...

Jolie Marshall's husband Chris is definitely horrible, bless her heart. He tricked Jolie into an "I do"--and her mother out of her father's life insurance money. Now Jolie is staying in the marriage--with a little assistance from the Future Widows' Club, of course--while she amasses the necessary evidence to send him to prison.

But when Chris is murdered, Jolie becomes the prime suspect. And her alibi? She was at an FWC meeting, which doesn't exactly lend itself to innocence. But when old flame Jake Malone--the man Jolie ditched to marry Chris--is assigned lead detective on the case she knows she's really in hot water. Because suddenly the new widow is thinking that a life sentence with no hope for parole--with him--wouldn't be too bad.

Rhonda Nelson always delivers! With her signature blend of sass, humor and southern charm you can't go wrong.

Southern humor meets southern smart in this part murder mystery, part romantic comedy. The widows of the small town of Bless Her Heart find it easy to laugh at death--especially when the man in question needed killing. The earlier version of this book was Rhonda Nelson at her best but her best got better in this this updated reissued edition. I can't wait to take another trip to Bless Her Heart in the next book in this series.

I'm a huge fan of Rhonda Nelson's work, but this is by far my favorite. It's the best of Nelson - her humor, her storytelling and her trademark sizzle. So glad to see this available again for Nook!

The title is more interesting than the novella itself.

I laughed, cried, turned pages in suspense..... I've never read Mrs. Nelson's "harlequin" type books, but her romantic comedies are wonderful!

In Moon Valley, Jolie Marshal regrets marrying charming SOB Chris who embezzled money from their company leaving friends and her mother potentially in the lurch. When she can pay back her ¿creditors¿, she will divorce Chris, who she married when vulnerable following the death of her father and rejection by her boyfriend Jake, who was not ready for a wife.................... The Future Widows¿ Club invites Jolie to join their group. Finding solace, she agrees and begins following some of the rules like taking out life insurance on her spouse. However, someone was irate when they shot Chris in the heart and cut off his penis. Could it be Sheriff Dean who has pictures of his wife with Chris? Or Police Officer Jake who is livid that this worm hit Jolie, the woman he still loves and regrets he let down? Or perhaps the grieving widow who just took out insurance on the rat?....................... THE FUTURE WIDOWS¿ CLUB is a strange dark humorous romance with police procedural elements to add excitement to the question of who killed Chris. The story line initially appears to be one of an abused spouse but switches gear once the merry widows invite Jolie to join. Rhonda Nelson writes a strong satirical dark look at society that accepts plenty of abusive ¿values¿ under the label of protecting the family.................. Harriet Klausner
