Two riders reined in their horses in front of the Marshal's Office in Deadwater. Their clothes were covered all over with dust from the sharp ride.
"Guess this is where we find the rat!" one of them said. His dark beard grew almost to below his eyes.
The other grinned dirtily. "Supposed to be a bad one, that Danny Wilbur!" he commented. As he did so, he flipped back his Saddle Coat, revealing the low-buckled revolver. He pulled the iron out briefly, checked the charge, then slid it back into the leather.
"We should get this over with!" the bearded man growled.
"From what I hear, Wilbur here is assistant marshal!"
"Don't get your knickers in a twist. After all, we want to earn the bounty that's on that star bearer..."
