Gargoyle Club by Heather Fleming

Garville, Maine is famous for its stone monsters – the gargoyles and grotesques carved on every building that stare down with sightless eyes. Meanwhile a human monster stalks the streets, leaving a trail of bodies and death.

Eden Sinclair quickly realizes the murderer is no ordinary killer. Dark supernatural forces are at work and to survive she must turn to five other teenagers who share her unique powers. Andre, Damien, Colette, Sorel, and Monique are descended from the city’s founders and inherited the taint of gargoyle blood. With them Eden finds acceptance, friendship, and even more danger.

Betrayal and secrets from the past are entwined with every clue. With her friends beside her Eden begins to close in on the killer . . . but the killer’s also closing in on her . . .

This book was one of my favorites right from the start. I usually don't read much but I brought this book home. I totally got my moneys worth! I couldn't put it down, I was waking up early, and going to sleep late, just to read it.

This book is fantastic! It is definately a book for all the fantasy lovers out there! Action and adventure go on througbout the whole book. Once you read the first page you can't put it down, seriously. A definite must-read! I took me like an hour to finish this whole book because it was SO good. This book will capture your attention and harness it to the story line as if you're already there. Each page will keep you asking, no, begging, for more. So worth the little money they ask for you to pay. This review goes for the whole series (4 books).

I was attracted to this book because it looked like something different, and I definitely got my money's worth. As far as I know, there is nothing quite like this book on the market. One of the things I liked the most about "The Gargoyle Club" was the main protagonist, Eden Sinclair, and her reaction to the startling discovery that she can transform into a gargoyle. Unlike a lot of other "powered" characters in other books who whine incessantly about the "curse" of being able to fly, have super strength and generally be better than average human beings, Eden thinks being a gargoyle is exciting and cool as soon as she discovers she is one. To me, this is a realistic touch. She also has some of the same problems as regular people, mainly trouble with friends she is growing apart from. This adds a humanizing undercurrent to the tale that nicely offsets the more fantastical elements. The detailed history of gargoyles and grotesques that the author provides is well rendered. It's a natural part of the story, instead of being an awkward break in the book's flow, and never fails to be interesting. There is also a satisfying mystery in these pages that's a lot of fun to be a part of. I am putting the sequel to this novel, "the Grotesque Game" on my reading list immediately. Hopefully, there are more sequels to come. I could easily see this series stretching out into at least 8 books without ever getting dull.

This is a great book from start to finish. The book draws you in as you follow the characters and try to figure out why they can suddenly shape shift into gargoyles. Along the way, you get a bit of history of gargoyles in myth and history, but that doesn't slow down the flow and action of the book.
