The Gatekeeper's Daughter by Eva Pohler

In The Gatekeeper's Sons, Therese and Thanatos, the god of death, met and fell in love. In The Gatekeeper's Challenge, they did everything they could to be together, even break an oath on the River Styx. But the Olympians don't tolerate oath-breakers. In this third book in the saga, The Gatekeeper's Daughter, Therese may have finally succeeded in becoming a goddess, but if she wants to remain one, she'll not only have to discover her unique purpose, but also make some allies among the gods. Artemis sends her on a seemingly impossible quest across the world, while Than searches for a way to appease Ares. To make matters worse, her baby sister's life depends on the outcome of her quest.

About the Author

Eva Pohler recently retired from a twenty-year position teaching writing and literature at a university in San Antonio, where she lives with her husband and three kids. Now a full-time writer, she’s the author of The Mystery Book Collection and three series for young adults: The Gatekeeper’s Saga, The Purgatorium Series, and The Vampires of Athens. Her books have been described as “thrilling” and “addictive.” A Kirkus reviewer said of The Gatekeeper’s Sons that it was “sure to thrill Hunger Games fans.” A reader herself, Eva writes in multiple genres, but all of her stories blur the line between reality and fantasy, truth and delusion, and draw from Eva’s personal philosophy that a reader must be lured and abducted into complete captivity in order to enjoy the reading experience.

~Author provided e-book~ I was excited to be given the opportunity to read this book, and of course I had to go buy 1 and 2. I am unable to read out of order! I'm so glad I did as the final book would have been confusing had I not read the first two. I really enjoyed the blending of the old 'gods' with present day and it made for interesting reading. It was a fast paced book with quite a few characters, but I never felt lost. My only criticism would be that either it should have been a longer book, or possibly a fourth one. There was so much action, I felt like I forgot to breath sometimes! I also want a bit more closure with my new friends :) Hopefully there will be one more...please? Maybe Hip's story. All in all a fun read.

Way to go, Eva Pohler! the Gatekeeper's Daughter the last book in the Gatekeeper's Trilogy is like the perfect bow on a package, the frosting on a cake! As Thanatos and Therese face their final battles against the wills of the gods, I found myself with a death grip on my Kindle! When the last page came, I was contently savoring how wonderful this series was...then I was horrified to realize, THIS WAS IT! Yikes! Eva Pohler's writing style is like a magnet for me! She weaves the stories of the gods and their superior and often self-serving attitudes with the tale of two people proving their love for each other no matter what obstacle is put in their way. Ms. Pohler allowed us to watch Therese mature and saw how deeply she cared for those around her as she calculated how best to please the gods and keep her friends and family safe, no matter what! And her purpose as a goddess? Perfect! The pace is fast, the plots and subplots intensely detailed without going overboard, and the role each character played fit like a glove! there was one line toward the end regarding Therese's best friend and Thanatos's brother that had me praying to the gods of Eva Pohler's wonderfully creative mind that there could be more from her, sometime? Soon? I need to thank the author for providing me this copy to read, enjoy and review! Did I mention I wanted more? I went through this book in one morning. The story of Therese and Than makes you just want to keep reading. They are fighting for their love for each other and will tackle anything that gets in their way.

I love this series so far, but I wish the author didn't disappoint so often. I've come down with a case of learnt helplessness. I feel like it was unecessary for this much bad luck to happen in just three books. The main character is amazimg as well as the others, but no matter what happens her compassion kills her. You would think that one mistake would change her mind, but nooo. She just hurts other people and herself because she's so indecisive. I feel like every time something good happens six bad things have to also. I'm still in the beginning of this book so I'm not sure whst else will go wrong, (and I hope I haven't given too much away). I just wish these characters could have a break. I'm really not sure if I would reccomend this book to others simply because it frustrated me so much. The writing style and tone do not bother me in the least, so thumbs up for that. If the plot didn't just keep falling down a hole I would like this a whole lot more. I will figure out how this series ends. I just hope it's not disappointing.
